Baseball Team To Host Alumni Dinner

April 18, 2006

The Middlebury College baseball team will host an alumni weekend on Friday, April 21st and Saturday, April 22nd. There will be a dinner on Friday night following the Panthers game vs. Amherst at 4:00 p.m. Middlebury will then play two against Amherst on Saturday beginning at noon. The following is a letter that was recently sent to many alumns.

Dear Friend of Middlebury Baseball Alumnus,

Greetings. On behalf of my teammates and the coaches, I am writing to invite you to a Middlebury Baseball Celebration on April 21-22, 2006. We are gathering to recognize the longstanding history of Middlebury baseball, honoring players, teams, and great moments from past to the present. To make this celebration even more exciting, Middlebury squares off that weekend against conference rival Amherst in a three game set, one game Friday afternoon and a doubleheader on Saturday.

"A Celebration of Middlebury Baseball" will feature a dinner on Friday, April 21 at 7:30 pm at the Kirk Alumni Center. The program includes a Keynote Address by Frank Burke '83, a former Middlebury player who is the President of the Chattanooga Lookouts, Cincinnati's AA minor league team, and a presentation by our Faculty Affiliate Karl Lindholm of the American Civilization Program (and a player on Middlebury teams in the 1960s) on Middlebury baseball dating back to its earliest years. In all, this evening acknowledges the special place of baseball at Middlebury College. Middlebury College boasts years of athletic excellence. We believe that it is time to recognize the baseball tradition that has existed here for nearly 150 years.

Along with the other captains and seniors, Coach Smith, and Dean Lindholm, I cordially invite you back to campus on April 21. We recognize your busy schedules but hope you may be able to find the time to contribute to this memorable celebration with your attendance. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please feel free to contact Karl Linholm at lindholm@middlebury.edu

Best wishes,

Andrew Pavoni '06
