Baseball Picks Up 21 Hits In Win At Mass. College

Middlebury pounded out 21 hits on its way to a 14-4 win at Massachusetts College on Wednesday. Thirteen different players had hits in the game, with eight players picking up a pair of hits on the afternoon.

The Panthers struck first with a four-run first inning to grab the early lead. John Lanahan, Andrew Pavoni and Matt Shimrock each had RBI singles in the inning, while Nick Lefeber had a run-scoring double. Middlebury added three in the second before a solo shot from Lanahan made it a 7-1 game after four innings.

Shimrock, Pavoni and Joe Ramoin each picked up RBI singles in the sixth, before Coleman Hutzler did the same in the ninth to make it a 14-4 final.

Steve Shortle moved to 2-0 on the season with six innings of work, allowing just one run. Lanahan went 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, Lefeber was 2-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI, while Shimrock and Pavoni each had two hits and two RBI.
