Baseball Pulls Away From St. Michael's

Middlebury scored seven runs in the middle innings on its way to a 12-6 win over St. Michael's on Forbes Field. The Panthers return to action on Wednesday when they host Plattsburgh at 4:00, while the Purple Knights visit Lyndon State for a pair.

Noah Walker tripled in Erich Enns in the first for Middlebury, before Ryan Reather plated Tim Pilczak with an RBI single to center in the second for St. Michael's.

Ed Fennessey executed a suicide-squeeze in the fourth to give the Purple Knights a 2-1 lead before the Panthers scored three in the fifth to gain a 4-2 advantage. St. Michael's tied the game with a pair in the top of the sixth, with a two out single to left by Fennessey.

Middlebury came back in the bottom of the sixth with four runs to take an 8-4 lead. RBI singles from Enns and Mark Shimrock, along with a two-run triple to right center from Walker drove in the runs.

St. Michael's scored a solo run in the seventh on a Jack Owens triple, before Middlebury plated four more in the bottom of the inning. Walker had a two-run single to left to spark the rally. The Purple Knights scratched across a run in the eighth, making it a 12-6 final.

Matt Lowes allowed one run over three and a third innings as Middlebury's starter, while Christian Hansen picked up his first win of the season in relief. St. Michael's starter Alex McIntire took the loss, tossing five and a third innings on the day.

Walker went 4-4 with five RBI and three runs scored to pace the Middlebury hitters. Enns had two hits and four runs scored, Nick Lefeber had a pair of hits with two RBI, while John Lanahan and Gabe Broughton each had two hits.

Greg Robins went 4-5 to lead St. Michael's, Owen finished the day 2-4 with two runs scored, while Reather and John Kunkel each had two hits.
