Baseball Falls To St Michael's

Middlebury saw its four-game winning streak come to an end as the Panthers fell 7-6 to St. Michael's on Forbes Field. Middlebury trailed 6-0, but battled back to tie the game at six before the Purple Knights won it with a run in the ninth.

Leading 1-0, St. Michael's plated three runs on three hits in the second inning to take a 4-0 advantage. A two-run triple to right center by Matt Beauliu sparked the inning for the Purple Knights.

St. Michael's added a pair in the fifth with an RBI single by Beaulieu and a SAC fly from Ben Yodzio to make it a 6-0 game.

Middlebury got on the board in the sixth with four runs on a pair of hits. A bases loaded walk by Erich Enns and a SAC fly to right by Dave Miranowski drove in two of the four runs.

The Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the eighth with a pair of runs on three hits, leaving the bases loaded. Miranowski singled to left to score Peter Bourdon, while Nick Lefeber's double to left drove in Enns to tie the game at 6-6.

St. Michael's scored an unearned run in the ninth, as Tim Pilczak reached on an error and later scored on a triple to right center by Beaulieu. Middlebury had a runner reach second base in the bottom of the ninth, but could not get the equalizer.

Mike McDonough picked up the win in relief for St. Michael's, while Colin Dudunake earned the save. Scooter Scott suffered the loss in relief for the Panthers, allowing an unearned run over one inning.

Beaulieu went 3-5 with four RBI for St. Michael's, while Greg McLaughlin, Evan Grenier, Matt O'Brien and Pilczak each had a pair of hits. Miranowski ended the day 2-3 with a pair of RBI for the Panthers, while Lefeber doubled.
