Middlebury took the lead for good with five more runs in the second inning, as the Panthers sent 11 players to the plate in the frame. Three Saint Michael's pitchers were used in the inning, and allowed a combined three hits, three hit batters, and two walks.

The Panthers, however, restored their five-run lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning, and Middlebury's last three pitchers combined to allow just three runs in 5.2 innings pitched to preserve the victory.
