Baseball Falls To Castleton

Castleton State broke open a 2-0 game with six runs in the sixth inning, on its way to a 13-0 win over Middlebury in a non-conference game on Forbes Field. The Panthers return to action on Thursday at Plymouth State, while the Spartans will play in the NEAC Championship series this weekend.
Leading 2-0, Castleton sent 11 men to the plate in the sixth, scoring six runs on five hits with a pair left on base. Mathew Pause scored two with a single to right, while David Brandt did the same with a shot up the middle. Ryan Zielinski plated the final run of the inning with a single to left.
The Spartans added three in the seventh on a single through the left side by Pause and a two-run single through the right side from Zielinski. Castleton tacked on two more runs in the ninth to pick up the 13-0 victory.
Derek Osborne moved to 3-1 on the season, picking up the win with four scoreless innings. Dylan Kane (2-1) suffered the loss for the Panthers, allowing seven runs over 5.1 innings of work.
Brandt finished the day 4-6 with two runs scored and two RBI to pace Castleton. Zielinksi had a 3-4 day with a double and four RBI, while Pause went 2-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Dylan Sinnickson and Zach Roeder each had two hits for the Panthers.
