The Middlebury College men’s swim team saw some impressive performances at the 2008 NCAA Championships. The Panthers finished 17th overall at the event, with Kenyon capturing the title.

Four Men's Swimmers Headed To NCAA's

The Middlebury College men’s swim team will send four athletes to the 2008 NCAA Championships hosted by The College of Wooster at Miami University in Ohio. The events will take place from March 20th-22nd with preliminaries in the morning and finals in the evening.

Women's Swim Team Places Seventh At NCAA's

The Middlebury College women’s swimming and diving team turned in an impressive seventh place finish at the 2008 NCAA Championships. NESCAC schools claimed several top honors on the weekend, with Amherst placing second and Williams coming in fifth. Senior Marika Ross (Shorewood, Wis.) won her fourth NCAA title in her career, defending her 200 fly event with a time of 2:01.49. Ross was just .64 seconds from winning the 100 fly crown, finishing in second place with a time of 55.72. Both performances earned Ross All-American honors.

The Middlebury College women’s swimming & diving teams will send 11 athletes to the 2008 NCAA Championships hosted by The College of Wooster at Miami University in Ohio. The events will take place from March 13th-15th with preliminaries in the morning and finals in the evening.

Men's Swimmers Earn NESCAC Honors

Nine members of Middlebury's men's swim team earned All-NESCAC honors after impressive performances at the championship meet. Junior Kevin O’Rourke (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) won two NESCAC titles, capturing the 200 free (1:41) and the 500 free (4:32.76), both setting new school records. Sophomore John Dillon (Wellesley, Mass.) won the NESCAC crown in the 100 fly, setting a new school record with a time of 49.58. The third Panther to win an event was sophomore Schuyler Beeman (Guilford, Conn.), who set a new school record with his win in the 50 free (20.56).

Solomon Earns NESCAC Coach Of The Year Honors

Middlebury College swimming coach Peter Solomon has been named the NESCAC Men’s Coach of the Year for the second time. Solomon was deemed the men’s coach of the year in ’05, repeating this season after his team had an impressive showing when they hosted the ’08 NESCAC Championships.

Successful Weekend For Men's Swimming

The Middlebury College men’s swimming and diving teams looked solid this past weekend when they hosted the 2008 NESCAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships. Williams won the event, followed by Tufts, Amherst and Middlebury. The Panthers won four individual titles and broke 10 school records over the three day event.

Middlebury Finishes Fourth At NESCAC Swimming & Diving Championships

Williams won its seventh NESCAC Championship in the last eight years as the Ephs captured the ’08 title at Middlebury College’s Natatorium. Williams finished the three-day event with 1,860 points, followed by Tufts (1,489), Amherst (1,399) and Middlebury (1,181). Williams remains in first place after day two of the NESCAC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by Middlebury College. The Ephs have 1282 points with one day of competition remaining, followed by Tufts (1092), Amherst (994) and Middlebury (841).

Seniors Marika Ross (Shorewood, Wis.) and Alanna Hanson (Golden Bridge, N.Y.) both earned impressive honors. Ross shared senior swimmer of the year honors, given to the athlete with the most points scored at NESCAC Championship meets, while Hanson earned the honor in diving. Ross ended the meet with three individual NESCAC titles, capturing the 50 fly (25.76), 100 fly (56.08) and the 200 fly (2:02.23).

The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams had a busy weekend with several teams on campus taking part in an invitational meet. Several Panthers improved their times over the weekend as they prepare for the upcoming post-season meets.

Swim Teams Fall At Williams

The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams were in action on Saturday as they both fell at Williams. The women suffered a 161-139 loss, while the men were handed a 208-86 set-back. Senior Marika Ross (Shorewood, Wis.) continued her impressive season, with four wins on the afternoon. Ross won the 200 free (1:54.20-B cut), 200 fly (2:04.39-A cut) and the 100 fly (56.73-A cut) on the day. She was also a part of the 200 medley relay team that won the event with a time of 1:49.47. Joining her on the winning team were junior Catherine Suppan (Burlington, Vt.), first-year swimmer Jessie Ward (Pittsford, N.Y.) and senior Pam Chatkavanij (Bangkok, Thailand).

Swim Teams Cruise Past Union

The Panther swimming and diving teams continued to roll as they both improved to 6-1 with wins over Union. The men were 200.5-93.5 winners, while the women earned a 198-102 victory.

Ross Is Performer Of The Week For The Second Time This Season- Earns National Honor

Middlebury College women's swimmer Marika Ross has been named the NESCAC Performer of the Week for the second time this season. She also earned Division III National Swimmer of the Week honors. During Saturday’s meet against Hamilton, Ross set a new pool record at Middlebury in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 57.16 seconds and won the 200-yard Butterfly with a time of 2:06.00. Ross was also part of the winning 400-yard Medley Relay and anchored the 400-yard Freestyle Relay for the Pan-thers.

Swim Teams Sweep Hamilton

The Panther swimming and diving teams both picked up wins over Hamilton this weekend in the Middlebury College Natatorium. The men were 171-110 winners, while the women picked up a 166-122 victory.

Swim Teams Sweep In Maine

The Panther swimming and diving teams each picked up a pair of wins in Maine over the weekend. The women defeated Colby 190-98, while the men earned a 195-73 win. The teams repeated at Bates, with the men picking up a 216-72 win and the women emerging with a 229-70 victory.

Swim Teams Top Springfield

The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams hosted Springfield on Saturday with both teams coming away with wins. The men were 170-128 winners, while the women won 172-120. Winning four events for the men was sophomore John Dillon (Wellesley, Mass.), while senior Marika Ross (Shorewood, Wis.) and rookie Emily McDonald (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) accomplished the feat on the women’s side.

Swim Teams Compete At Amherst

The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams were in action on Saturday as they competed at Amherst. The men were defeated 193-98, while the women were defeated 169-129. Senior Marika Ross (Shorewood, Wis.) made two NCAA “B” cuts, while winning an event. Ross won the 100 fly in 58.45, while earning a second place finish in the 200 free (1:55.40), earning a “B” cut.

Ross Earns Weekly Honor

Middlebury College women's swimmer Marika Ross has been named the NESCAC Performer of the Week. She was a quadruple winner for the Panthers during their meet victory over Connecticut College, taking two individual races and helping two Middlebury relay teams to victory. Ross won the 200-yard Butterfly with a time of 2:10.32 and was victorious in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 58.77.

Swim Teams Open Season With Wins Over Conn.

The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams opened up their seasons with victories over Connecticut College at home. The men earned a 168-116 win, while the women were 170-112 victors.
