Middlebury swim team helps raise money for cancer research with ocean swim

At Nantasket Beach in Massachusetts this summer, Middlebury College swim team members and their coach joined about 50 other New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) swimmers, coaches and alumni in a one-mile ocean swim to help raise money for cancer research.

Men's Swimming Does Well At NCAA's

The Middlebury College men’s swimming and diving team finished 14th overall out of 52 teams competing at the 2007 NCAA Championships last week. Senior Robert Collier (Catonsville, Md.) was the top performer, earning All-American status in both the 100 and 200 fly. Collier placed sixth in the 200 with a time of 1:51.08, while coming in eighth in the 100 in 50.08.

Women's Swim Team Places Eighth At NCAA's

The Middlebury College women’s swimming and diving team finished eighth overall out of 51 teams competing at the 2007 NCAA Championships last week. Junior Marika Ross (Shorewood, Wis.) had a great weekend, winning NCAA titles in both the 100 and 200 fly events. Her time of 55.59 seconds in the 100 is a new varsity and NESCAC record, while she finished in 2:02.26 to capture the 200 fly for the second time in three years. Ross also placed ninth with a time of 4:58.87 to set a new school record in the 500 free.

Women's Swimmers Compete At NCAA's

The Middlebury women's swimming and diving team are taking part in the 2007 NCAA Championships on March 8-10 at the University of Houston. The Panthers have qualfied their largest team ever, sending 17 athletes to the championship meet.

Nine members of the Middlebury men's swimming and diving team earned All-NESCAC honors after solid performances at the championship meet. Rob Collier won three individual titles, while Brooks Farrar won both diving competitions.

Men's Swimmers Place Fourth At NESCAC's

The Middlebury College men’s swimming and diving teams finished fourth overall at the NESCAC Championship meet hosted by Bowdoin over the weekend. Williams won the event, followed by Amherst, Tufts and Middlebury.

Senior Rob Collier (Catonsville, Md.) had an amazing weekend, capturing three individual NESCAC titles, while placing second as a member of three different relay teams.

The Middlebury men's swimming and diving squads will take part in the 2007 NESCAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship this weekend. The three-day event is hosted Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. The three-day event kicks off on Friday, Feb. 23 at the Leroy Greason Pool and runs through Sunday, Feb. 25.

The Middlebury College women's swimming and diving teams finished third overall at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Williams. The host school won the event, followed by Amherst, Middlebury and Connecticut College. The Panthers set five varsity records and had five individual NESCAC Champions, as well as a championship relay team.

Swimmers Split With Williams

The Panther swimming and diving teams earned a split with Williams as the two teams battled in Vermont on Saturday. The Panther women earned their first-ever win over Williams 161-139, while the men fell 170-126.

The Panther swimming and diving teams continued their winning ways as they both picked up road wins at Union. The men moved to 6-0 on the season with a 174-103 win, while the women advance to 5-1 with a 160-136 victory.

Swimmers Cruise At Hamilton

The Panther men's and women's swimming and diving teams had little trouble for the second straight weekend as they defeated Hamilton. The men were 175-62 winners, while the women won 182.5-56.5. Middlebury swept every event at the meet, accomplishing the feat for the first time in at least 10 years.

The Panther men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the second semester with a pair of convincing wins over Colby and Bates. The men defeated Colby 137-99 and Bates 162-73, while the women topped the Mules 147-104, while defeating the Bobcats 160-128.

The Middlebury College men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up impressive road wins over the weekend at Springfield. The men’s team squeaked out a 151-149 win, while the women were 164-136 winners.

Swimmers Raise Money For Cancer

On November 6th, 2006, the entire Middlebury College Swimming Team took an hour out of their regular training schedule to participate in the Leave it in the pool Swim-a-thon” fundraiser being held for a fellow Division III varsity swimmer from Carleton College, Ted Mullins, who lost his two year battle with cancer this fall. Middlebury joined Carleton College and other teams from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in an hour long relay.
