5/16/04 - The Middlebury College track and field teams turned in impressive performances at the ECAC Championships hosted by Williams. The Panther men placed 10th of 53 teams, while the women placed 13th of 51 squads taking part in the meet.
Three Middlebury athletes earned ECAC Champion honors, including junior Jessica Manzer (Palatine Bridge, N.Y.), who earned the title with a time of 4:38.33 in the 1500. On the men’s side, junior Nick Digani (Northfield, Ill.) won the 800 in 1:52.61, while sophomore Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.) was victorious in the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.96.
Four other Panthers earned All-ECAC performances with solid efforts. Placing second in the 400 hurdles was senior Maryanne Porter (W. Roxbury, Mass.), with a time of 1:03.22. Finishing fifth in the hammer was senior Jennifer March (Fairbanks, Alaska) with a toss of 153’8”, while junior Sarah Berkowitz (Media, Pa.) came in seventh in the pole vault with a 10’4.25” effort.
Sophomore Khristoph Becker (Media, Pa.) earned a pair of eighth place finishes to earn All-ECAC honors. In the javelin, Becker tossed 182’9”, while leaping 6.35” in the high jump.
Manzer, Porter, Bright, Becker and Digani are all qualified for the NCAA Championships, while first-year thrower Mary Frederickson (Florham Park, N.J.) hopes to make the trip as well.
