Becker Wins NCAA Title, Bright & Atkinson Are All-Americans

5/28/05 -Three members of the Middlebury College men’s track & field team were in action at Wartburg College in Iowa at the 2005 NCAA Division III Championships. Junior Khristoph Becker (Media, Pa.) became the school’s third NCAA individual champion, as he captured the title in the javelin with a toss of 205’11”. He becomes the school’s second NCAA javelin champion, after Bryan Black ’02 won the event in ’00.
Junior Steve Atkinson (Huntingdon, Que.) also turned in a great performance in the javelin, throwing 195’8” to place fifth overall, earning All-American status. Also earning All-American honors was junior Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.), who placed fifth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.46 seconds.

Tracks Competes at ECAC's

5/21/05 - The Middlebury College track & field teams sent individuals to the ECAC Championships at Springfield College over the weekend. Winning the javelin event was junior Steve Atkinson (Huntingdon, Que.), with a toss of 200’6”.

Track Teams Compete At UNH

5/15/05 - The Middlebury College track & field teams were in action at the Open New England Championships hosted by the University of New Hampshire. The men’s team placed 11th out of 36 schools competing at the meet. Highlights for the men included a second place finish by junior Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.) in the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.33. First-year runner Patrick Swan (Horseheads, N.Y.) ran a solid race in the 400, placing sixth overall with a time of 49.34.

Track Teams Compete At N.E.'s

5/11/05 -  The Middlebury College track & field teams competed at the New England Championships over the weekend. The men finished sixth of 26 teams at Springfield, while the women came in 9th of 27 teams at Bates.

Track Athletes Garner Honors

5/6/05 - Fourteen members of the Middlebury College track & field teams earned All-NESCAC honors when the teams were released today. Junior Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.) earned the Sebasteanski Awards as the Most Outstanding Male Performer at the meet. First-year athlete Patrick Swan (Horseheads, N.Y.) was named the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer of the meet.

Track Teams Finish Third At NESCAC's

4/30/05 - The Middlebury College track & field teams both finished in third place at the 2005 NESCAC Track & Field Championships hosted by Colby College. The Panthers boasted five NESCAC Champions as well as the 4x400 men's relay team.

Track & Field Prepares For NESCAC Championship

4/26/05 - Colby College will host the 2005 NESCAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday April 30th. Williams is the defending champion for both the men and women. The Eph men have won the team title 11 of the last 12 years while the women have been crowned champions at eight of the last ten events. At the 2004 championships, Tufts placed second in both the men’s and women’s team standings, followed by the Colby men and Bates women in third.

Track Teams Open Home Season

4/5/05 - Middlebury hosted its first track meet of the season at the Dragone Track on Tuesday. The Panthers were victorious in both meets, defeating the University of Vermont, Plattsburgh and Colby-Sawyer.

3/29/05 - The Panther track & field teams opened their season with a pair of meets in California over the spring break. Middlebury competed at the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State, while also racing at the Triton Collegiate Open, hosted by UC-San Diego.

Digani Races At NCAA's

3/12/05 -  Senior Nick Digani (Northfield, Ill.) was the lone Panther competing at the Indoor Track Championships at Illinois-Wesleyan. Digani finished with a time of 1:55.67 in the 800 meters, unfortunately not qualifying him for the finals in that event. He will return to action this spring with the outdoor track and field squad.

Indoor Track Competes At Dartmouth

2/5/05 - The Panther indoor track team was in action last weekend as they competed at Dartmouth. Senior Nick Digani (Northfield, Ill.) continued his impressive feats as he finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.94, breaking his own school record.

Digani Breaks School Mark

1/29/05 - Nick Digani (Northfield, Ill.) of the men’s indoor track team competed in races at Bucknell over the weekend. The senior turned in a great performance in the 800 meters, winning the event and setting a new school record with a time of 1:56.62. Digani now owns or is a part of 10 Middlebury College indoor and outdoor track records.

1/22/05 - The Middlebury College indoor track teams both finished fourth at St. Lawrence over the weekend in competitive meet with several teams involved. A pair of school records were turned in on the men’s side, as the Panthers turned in some solid performances over the weekend.

Indoor Track In Action At Wesleyan

1/15/05 - The Middlebury College indoor track teams were in action last weekend at the Wesleyan Invitational. Senior Sarah Berkowitz (Media, Pa.) was a winner in the pole vault, clearing 9’6”. Winning on the men’s side was sophomore Neiman Groce (Rutland, Vt.), who leaped 20’4.25” to win the long jump.

Indoor Track Opens Season

1/8/05 - The Panther indoor track teams opened their season by competing at the Dartmouth Invitational on Sunday. On the women’s side, the 4x200 relay team of sophomore Erin Oliver (Essex Junction, Vt.) along with first-year racers Jessie Evangelista (Hughsonville, N.Y.), Lizz Huntley (Coralville, Iowa) and Jackie Russell (Canyon Country, Calif.), finished fifth overall with a time of 1:52.81.
