The Middlebury College track and field teams took part in the Williams relays over the weekend with several solid performances. Earlier in the week, senior Khristoph Becker (Media, Pa.) and sophomore Jimmy Butcher (Garden City, N.J.) competed at Tufts. The duo were attempting to qualify for the NCAA’s in events not being run at Williams, with both of them accomplishing their task. Becker won the decathlon with 6,415 points, while Butcher placed third in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:04.23.

At Williams, junior Beth Butler (Bronxville, N.Y.) earned a win in the 800, finishing the event with a time of 2:18.10. Placing second in the 100 hurdles was first-year racer Jennifer Brenes (Lawrence, Mass.) with a time of 15.67. Junior Mary Frederickson (Florham Park, N.J) finished third in the javelin (109’5”) as did rookie Kelley Coughlan (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) in the triple jump (33’11.25”).

Two women’s relay teams earned first place finishes, with both the 4x400 (4:19.59) and the 4x800 (9:41.74) squads picking up wins. Senior Kirsten Nagel (Winchester, Mass.), sophomore Lizz Huntley (Coralville, Iowa) and first-year racers Jen Katz (Winchester, Mass.) and Julianna Clock (Seward, Alaska) were on the 4x4 team, while Butler, junior Kara Plunkett (Topsfield, Mass.), sophomore Megan MacCrellish (Belmont, Mass.) and rookie Simone Weisman (Newton, Mass.) were on the 4x8 squad.

The men’s 4x400 team comprised of senior Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.), sophomore Patrick Swan (Horseheads, N.Y.) and first-year racers Ben Fowler (Bethesda, Md.) and Jake Liberman (St. Louis, Mo.) won their event with a time of 3:25.18. Bright picked up a win in the 400 hurdles in 54.17, while sophomore Patrick Sedney (Underhill, Vt.) came in third in the pole vault (11’11.75”).
