Several members of the Middlebury Track & Field teams earned All-NESCAC honors based on their performances at the recent NESCAC Championships hosted by Connecticut College. In order to be an All-NESCAC honoree, athletes must place in the top three in their events. Along with the All-NESCAC honorees, rookie Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) was named the most outstanding rookie on the men's side. Schmidt won the NESCAC title in the 10,000 meter race, finishing with a time of 32:09.82.
Middlebury head coach Martin Beatty shared women's coach of the year honors with his colleague from Williams. Beatty helped lead the women's team to a second place finish overall at this year's championship. The '84 Middlebury grad is now in his 22nd season as the Panther head coach. In '98 and '00, Beatty was named the NCAA New England regional women's coach of the year after leading the Panthers to NESCAC Championships. In '05, he was named the NESCAC men's coach of the year.
