Men 8th, Women 11th At NCAA Cross Country Championships

The Middlebury men’s cross country team earned a school-best eighth place finish at the 2012 NCAA Championship races hosted by Rose-Hullman Institute of Technology. North Central won the men’s title among 32 teams, with NESCAC foes Bates and Tufts finishing sixth and seventh. The Panther women just missed a top 10 finish by coming in 11th at the race. Johns Hopkins won the women’s crown, with Williams placing fourth at the event.
Pacing the men’s squad was Jack Davies, who finished 21st overall in the 280-man race with a time of 24:57. Patrick Hebble was next for the Panthers in 58th place (25:24), followed by Nate Sans in 81st place (25:33). Placing 114th overall was Kevin Wood in 25:46, while Wilder Schaaf wrapped up the scorers in 141st place with a time of 25:56. Also competing for Middlebury were Greg Krathwohl, who came in 141st (25:56) and Anthony Lee in 178th (26:14).
Addie Tousley turned in another impressive performance for the Middlebury women, finishing the 277-person race in fourth place in 21:14. Lucy Whipps was next for Middlebury with a 62nd place finish in 22:28, followed by Alison Maxwell, who came in 124th (22:55) overall. Placing 127th was Emily Attwood with a time of 22:56, while Katie Rominger completed the Panther scorers in 162nd place (23:10). Also racing for the Panthers were Sarah Guth in 179th place (23:17) and Katie Carlson in 187th (23:22).
