Middlebury to host NCAA Regional

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Middlebury College field hockey team will host one of four NCAA Regionals this weekend on Kohn Field. The winner of the regional will advance to the championship weekend on November 21st and 22nd at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa.
The Panthers are the only undefeated team in the country with a perfect 16-0 record on the season. The 16 straight wins are a school record, while the squad is only one win shy of tying the school mark with 17 wins set by the '98 NCAA Championship team. This will be the team's fourth NCAA Tournament appearance and first since the '98 season. The '96 team lost in the first-round, while the '94 team advanced to the semifinals. Middlebury is 6-2 overall in NCAA Tournament play.
Head Coach Katharine DeLorenzo, now in her third season with a 36-11 record, has the Panthers at the top of their game entering the weekend. The defense has never been better this season, boasting four straight shutouts and a span of 326 minutes without allowing a goal. They also allow a mere .88 goals/game, while scoring 3.6 goals/contest.
Leading the team in scoring this season is senior Char Glessner with 16 goals and seven assists for 39 points. She is the school's all-time leader in assists with 25, is third in goals with 46 and second in points with 117. Senior Abigail Lamb has come on strong this season and is now second on the team in scoring (10-6-26). Rounding out the top scorers are sophomores Ashley Lyddane (9-6-24), Allison Smith (6-6-18) and senior Missy Krempa (6-3-15). In goal, Meg McGillen became the starter after the fifth game of the season, sporting an impressive 0.28 goals against average to go along with six shutouts, tying a single-season school record.
