Field Hockey Advances To Regional Final

11/13/04 - Middlebury had little trouble with Wesley (Delaware) as they picked up a 7-0 win over the Wolverines in an NCAA Regional match-up on Kohn Field. The Panthers advance to take on Cortland, a 2-1 overtime winner over Juniata, in the NCAA Regional final on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Ashley Lyddane opened the scoring as she put home a rebound after a shot by Claire Edelen was stopped by a pad save from Stephanie Hartsoe. Allison Smith gave the Panthers a 2-0 she as she ripped a shot into the back of the cage on a penalty corner with a nice injection from Lyddane and a stop by Lauryn Nicasio. Ashley Pullen made it a 3-0 game as she put a shot into the cage off the pads of Hartsoe.

The Panthers led 3-0 at the break, before scoring three goals in a 3:58 span beginning at the 24:05 mark of the second half. Lyddane began the run, before Edelen scored on a rebound to make it a 5-0 game. Lyddane earned her hat-trick at 20:09 as she snapped a shot past the goalkeeper with a nice crossing pass from Nicasio. Janie Mackey ended the scoring by converting a penalty stroke with 13:37 left to play.

Middlebury out shot Wesley 35-1 on the day, while holding a 16-0 edge in penalty corners. Meghan McGillen was forced to make no saves for her sixth shutout of the season, while Hartsoe made 17 saves for Wesley.
