Field Hockey Set To Host NCAA Regional

11/10/04 - The Middlebury College field hockey team will make its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend when they host an NCAA Regional on Kohn Field for the second consecutive season. The Panthers have a 9-4 all-time record in NCAA play, winning the title in '98 and advancing to the championship game a year ago.

Middlebury earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after falling to Williams 4-3 in overtime in the NESCAC Championship game. The Panthers are ranked third in the latest Division III National poll. The Panthers led the NESCAC this season with 4.75 goals/game, while allowing just 1.12 goals/contest.

Leading the team in scoring this season have been Claire Edelen (13-9-35), Ashley Lyddane (12-4-28) and Lauryn Nicasio (10-5-25). Edelen ranks third in the league with 2.19 points/game and 0.81 goals/contest this season. The balanced scoring attack is rounded out by Reid Berrien (9-2-20) and Emily Enos (7-3-17). In goal, Meghan McGillen has a 1.41 goals against average with 91 saves and five shutouts in 1,082 minutes of play.
