Field Hockey Thumps Bates

10/24/04 - NESCAC Player of the Week, Ashley Lyddane scored a hat-trick for the Panthers in a 10-1 victory over Bates on Kohn Field. Middlebury is currently ranked third in the latest Division III National Poll and leads the NESCAC with an 8-0 conference record.

Lyddane opened the scoring at 33:57 on a nice feed from Ashley Pullen. Less than four minutes later Lauryn Nicasio broke away from 25 yards out and notched the Panthers second goal of the game. Lyddane scored her second of the game and the team's third in 5:30 to make it a 3-0 game. Emily Enos tapped in a penalty corner at 19:24, before Lyddane scored her third of the game with 11:58 left in the first half. Allison Smith made it a 6-0 game when her blast from the outside found the back of the cage with 10:12 in the first half.

Allison Marshall put Bates on the board early in the second half before the Panthers scored the game's final four goals to make it a 10-1 final. Emily Read scored a pair of second half goals, while Reid Berrien and Nina Daugherty each notched one to seal the win for the Panthers.

Meg McGillen made one save in 27 minutes, while Emiko Neithercut made two in 43 minutes for Middlebury. Sarah Sprague and Sarah Judice each made six saves in 35 minutes for Bates.
