Field Hockey Tops Amherst, 4-0

10/9/04 - Middlebury scored three first half goals in a 4-0 victory over Amherst on Kohn Field. The 9-0 Panthers are currently ranked fourth in the latest Division III National Poll and are leading the NESCAC with a 6-0 conference record.
The scoring began at 29:04 in the first period after a nice feed from Claire Edelen was tapped in by Lauryn Nicasio. At 21:48, the score became 2-0 after a blocked shot by Ashley Lyddane was rebounded by Edelen, who scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Reid Berrien made it a 3-0 game when she broke away from 50 yards out with 2:26 left in the first half. The only goal of the second half was scored at 13:42 when Nicasio's rocket deflected off the pads and into the cage for her second goal of the game.
Middlebury's fourth shutout of the season was earned by goalie Meg McGillen, who made three saves. Amherst goalkeepers Kathleen Boucher and K.C. Cosentino combined for 12 saves in net.
