Field Hockey Returns To NESCAC Semi's

11/2/05 - The Middlebury College field hockey team will makes its sixth consecutive trip to the NESCAC Tournament this weekend at <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Bowdoin College. The Panthers will take on Williams in a semifinal game on Saturday at 1:30 , while the host school will meet Wesleyan in the other semifinal at 11:00 a.m. The winners meet for the NESCAC Championship at noon on Sunday.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Middlebury won the '03 NESCAC title, advancing to the finals in '04 and the semifinals in '01 and '02. The Panthers enter the tournament with a 13-2 record, ranked eighth in the latest Division III national poll. Middlebury is ranked second in the league with a 1.04 goals against average this season, while sitting third with 3.00 goals/game. The Panthers have been on a tear of last, winning their last eight games, allowing less than a goal in each contest.
Last weekend, Reid Berrien scored a pair of goals to lead Middlebury to a 3-0 win over Bates in the first-round of the NESCAC Tournament on Kohn Field.
Berrien leads the team and the NESCAC in goals with 15 on the season. Ashley Lyddane is second on the team with eight goals, while Allison Smith and Nina Daugherty have five goals apiece. Channing Weymouth is second on the team with 18 points, leading the team and the NESCAC with 10 assists on the year. In goal, Meghan McGillen has a 1.01 goals against average with a pair of shutouts on the season.
