Field Hockey Blanks Conn.

September 8, 2007

Middlebury looked impressive on Kohn Field as they earned a 7-0 shutout over Connecticut College in the season-opener for both squads. The Panthers outshot the Camels 29-15 and used five different goal scorers in the game.

Heather McCormack helped the offense get going early as she assisted Reid Berrien and Sarah Bryan for goals in the game's first 6:57. Berrien struck again with 4:56 left in the half, before Allison Grant closed the first half scoring at the 2:21 mark.

After two helpers in the first session, McCormack scored a goal of her own at the 22:25 mark to make it a 5-0 game. Berrien netted her third of the game at 19:48, followed by the final goal of the game by Sally Ryan with 6:53 remaining. The goals for Bryan, Grant and Ryan were the first of their careers at Middlebury.

Caitlin Pentifallo made eight saves in goal to earn the shutout, while Jamie Sheahan made 13 stops for Conn. College.
