Field Hockey Players Earn Regional Honors

November 18, 2008

Three members of the Middlebury College field hockey team earned New England West All-Region honors by the NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association). Senior Taryn Petrelli (Harrison, N.Y.) and sophomore Chase Delano (Greenwich, Conn.) were both named to the first-team, while junior Heather McCormack (Rowley, Mass.) earned second-team honors. The three helped lead the Panthers to a 14-4 record with a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals.

Petrelli earned a spot on the first-team after earning second-team honors for the past two seasons. She is also a three-time All-NESCAC selection for the Panthers. The senior helped anchor a Panther defense that has allowed just 1.52 goals/game this season, fifth in the NESCAC. Petrelli played in 73 career games at Middlebury, with three goals and three assists and some stellar defense.

Delano scored more goals and recorded more points this season than any other player in school history. The sophomore netted 27 goals in 18 games to go along with seven assists for 61 points. She ranked second in the NESCAC with 3.39 points/game and 1.50 goals/game. Delano scored in all but three games this season, with two or more goals on nine different occasions.

McCormack, who is now skating with the women's hockey team at Middlebury, was the team's second-leading scorer in '08. She ended the season with 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points this season. McCormack has played in all 18 games this season, with two goals in a game four different times.
