Three Panther Field Hockey Players Earn NESCAC Honors

November 12, 2008

Three members of the Middlebury College field hockey team were honored when the NESCAC released its All-Conference teams today. Senior Taryn Petrelli (Harrison, N.Y.) and sophomore Chase Delano (Greenwich, Conn.) were both named to the first-team, while junior Heather McCormack (Rowley, Mass.) earned second-team honors. The three are preparing for this weekend's NCAA Regional at Bowdoin.

Petrelli earned a spot on the first-team after earning second-team honors for the past two seasons. She has helped anchor a Panther defense that has allowed just 1.40 goals/game this season. Petrelli has played in 71 career games at Middlebury, with three goals and three assists.

Delano has enjoyed one of the best goal-scoring seasons in school history. The sophomore currently has 23 goals in 16 games, tying the school record for goals in a season held by current assistant coach Heidi Howard '99. Her 1.44 goals/game put her second in the NESCAC, as do her 3.31 points/contest. Delano has scored in all but three games this season, with two or more goals on eight different occasions.

McCormack, who will join the women's hockey team at the completion of the season, is currently the team's second-leading scorer. She currently has 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points on the year, including 1.81 points/game to place her fifth among NESCAC players. McCormack has played in all 16 games this season, with two goals in a game four different times.
