Field Hockey Thumps Bates

Middlebury scored a season-high nine goals and picked up their 15th consecutive win over Bates, this time with a 9-0 shutout. The Panthers scored five times in the first half and outshot the Bobcats 23-7, holding a 10-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Leading 1-0 on a goal from Marnie Rowe, Heather McCormack made it 2-0 just 4:45 into the game, as she scored at the end of a penalty corner. Sophie Thompson made it a 3-0 game with her first of a career-high four goals on the afternoon, as she tipped in a pass from Rowe. Thompson struck again 7:10 later, scoring on a rebound after a shot from Logan Brown was saved on a penalty corner. Emily Blair scored the final goal of the half as the Panthers took a 5-0 advantage into the break. The Middlebury offense continued in the second half as Thompson scored twice more, along with goals from Lindsay McBride and Chase Delano. Mullery Doar ended the game with three assists for the Panthers.

Caitlin Pentifallo made four saves in 63 minutes of work, while Becca Shaw saw action for the final seven for Middlebury. Katie McEnroe made nine saves in 47 minutes for Bates, while Helena Turner made none in 23 minutes of play.
