Field Hockey Tops Trinity

October 7, 2008

Trailing 1-0, Middlebury scored three goals in the first 14 minutes of the second half to come away with a 3-2 win over Trinity on Kohn Field. The Panthers entered the game ranked third in the latest national poll, while the Bantams were ranked 12th. Trinity suffers its first loss of the season, moving to 8-1 and 4-1 in league play, while Middlebury moves to 7-1 and 4-1 in the NESCAC.

Trinity took a 1-0 lead 13:26 into the game as Robyn Williams found Carrie Wolcott in transition, as she finished to give the Bantams the advantage. The game remained at 1-0 until Middlebury scored twice in less than a minute early in the second half to take a 2-1 lead.

Allison Grant made a quick pass in front to Chase Delano, who found the back of the cage to knot the game at one. Delano struck again 59 seconds later with her 13th goal of the season, as she gathered the ball before turning and scoring quickly from the stroke line.

Grant gave the Panthers some breathing room at 49:04 as she took a nice up-pass from Delano and scored for the 3-1 advantage. Wolcott and Williams hooked up again for Trinity with just 40 seconds remaining to make it a 3-2 final.
