Field Hockey Thumps Williams - To Host Quarterfinal Game On Sunday

October 30, 2009

Middlebury had little trouble with Williams, handing the Ephs a 7-1 defeat in the final NESCAC regular season home game for both teams. The Panthers finish the season in fourth place and will hosted fifth-seeded Williams for the second time in three days in a NESCAC Quarterfinal game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on Kohn Field.

Lauren Greer and Sally Ryan scored two goals apiece to help lead Middlebury to the win. Greer scored the first two goals of the game to make it a 2-0 game at the 11:24 mark. The first goal came in transition, while Heather McCormack made a quick feed to Greer during a scramble for the second tally. The goals were her team-leading 15th and 16th of the season for Greer.

Ryan scored two of the game's next three goals, with a tally from McCormack sandwiched in between. Ryan tipped in a shot from Chase Delano to earn the first goal, before McCormack scored her sixth of the season. Ryan's second goal converted a feed from across the circle by Allison Grant.

Leading 5-0 at the break, Delano earned her sixth of the season at 39:50, with a feed from Charlotte Gardiner in transition. Hannah Clarke scored Middlebury's final goal at 50:43, converting a quick feed from Logan Brown.

Williams broke up the shutout at 59:58, as Nicolle Perry tipped in a shot after a rebound from Alice Bearn.

Becca Shaw made six saves in 54 minutes, while Madeline Brooks was forced to make none over 16 minutes of play for the Panthers. Katrina Tulla made a pair of stops for Williams.
