Field Hockey Opens Kohn With A Win

In a battle between teams ranked in the top 10 nationally, #10 Middlebury defeated #7 Trinity 4-3 in overtime in the Panthers' home-opener on Kohn Field. The Bantams trailed 3-1 in the second half before battling back to tie the game, only to see the Panthers pick up the win 4:16 into the extra session.       

Trinity jumped out early, scoring just 34 seconds into the game when Christy Bradley took a feed from Hadley Duncan and quickly found the back of the cage for the 1-0 advantage. Middlebury tied the game at 14:48, when Heather Karpas tipped in a shot from Lauren Greer in transition following a Trinity corner.

Middlebury took its first lead of the game at 23:40, when Clara St. Germain's reverse flick shot was tipped into the goal by Sally Ryan. The lead increased to 3-1 early in the second half, as Chase Delano blasted home a shot on a penalty corner. Hannah Clarke and Margaret Souther both assisted on the goal.

Trinity began its comeback at 56:39, scoring twice in 2:38 to knot the game at 3-3. The first goal was scored on a penalty corner when Payson Sword tipped in a shot from Christy Bradley. The Bantams tied the game when Paige Duke crossed from the left side and scored at 59:17.

The game remained tied throughout regulation, forcing the contest into overtime. Middlebury scored the game-winner 4:16 in, after a flurry in the Bantam goal area. After an initial shot, the ball was stopped and rolling near the goal among a pile of players on the ground. Greer pulled the ball out of the pile and spun around with a quick shot to the right side to give the Panthers the overtime win.

Madeline Brooks ended the game with three saves for Middlebury, while Gina Dinallo made 11 stops for Trinity. The Panthers held a 16-7 shots advantage in the game, while Trinity led 8-5 in penalty corners.
