Greer With Five Points In 5-0 Win At Castleton

October 4, 2011

Middebury’s Lauren Greer accounted for all five Panther goals, scoring twice and handing out three assists as Middlebury downed Castleton 5-0 in non-conference field hockey action at Spartan Stadium Tuesday evening. The current NESCAC player of the week now has 10 goals and eight assists in her last five games.

Greer set up Hannah Clarke with a wide open cage to open the Middlebury scoring at the 7:49 mark. Greer blasted a shot towards the far post, and as Castleton keeper Bridget Dusha reacted, Clarke deftly redirected the shot inside the near post.

Middlebury made it 2-0 12 minutes later on yet another Greer shot that was redirected by Clarke. Greer once again sent a shot in towards the far post, where Clarke was waiting to send it home.

Greer got one of her own at the 23:45 mark, pouncing on a rebound and potting her 12th of the season, pushing the lead to 3-0 at the interval.

Greer opened the scoring in the second half, scoring her second of the contest just under five minutes in. She weaved her way through a pair of Spartan defenders, into the striking circle and beat Dusha with a low liner.

Elinore O’Brien finished off the Middlebury scoring two minutes later, once again redirecting a Greer blast past Dusha.

Dusha finished with 16 saves, and turned away several other chances by the unrelenting Panther offense. With the loss Castleton falls to 5-6.

Madeline Brooks stopped all six shots that came her way to post the shutout in her first start of the season as 11-ranked Middlebury improves to 6-2.

Castleton returns to conference action Saturday when the Spartans play host to Rivier at 6 pm, while Middlebury will travel to NESCAC-foe Hamilton for a 12 pm match up.
