Middlebury College athlete Ryan Armstrong (Whitman, Mass.) has been named a 2006 Vermont Collegiate Scholar-Athlete by the Vermont Chapter of the National Football Foundation. The senior will be honored at a banquet held on May 7th at Middlebury College.

Armstrong was a four-year member of the football team at Middlebury College. The senior played several different positions at Middlebury, including wide receiver, running back and fullback. He ended his career with 58 receptions for 505 yards, averaging 8.7 yards/catch to go along with five touchdowns. This past season, he was second on the team with 27 receptions for 220 yards with three touchdowns. He also returned 31 punts and 31 kickoffs during his time at Middlebury.

"Ryan has been the heart and soul of our team here at Middlebury," said head coach Bob Ritter. "His hard-work, dedication and willingness to play at any position, made him an immeasurable asset to our team."

On the baseball field, Armstrong has proven to be one of the top hitters in school history. He is currently in his fourth season on the team, after breaking the school's single-season record with a .495 average a year ago.

Armstrong will graduate this May from Middlebury with a degree in American Civilization.
