Chapman Named Preseason All-American

July 24, 2012

Billy Chapman was recently chosen by d3football.com as a first-team tight end on the website’s national preseason All-American team. Chapman had a prolific season in 2011, leading the NESCAC with 57 receptions. He was second in the conference with 635 yards receiving, while his five touchdown catches were two off the NESCAC pace in 2011. He was also named to pre-season All-American teams by the D3 Senior Classic and USA College Football. Quarterback McCallum Foote was a second-team choice from USA College Football.

The 2012 Panther captain is no stranger to d3football.com. The Greenwich, Conn. native was an All-East selection and All-American honorable mention pick after the 2011 season. He twice appeared on the website’s national “Team of the Week” for big games against Colby (10 receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown) and later against Bates (11 catches for 122 yards with a score).

Chapman, an economics major, collected football accolades from within the region as well. He was named first-team All-NESCAC, earned a New England Football Writers Division II/III All-Star team selection, and was a first-team choice for the ECAC Division III North team.

Chapman, the only NESCAC player on the 50-man national team, is a two-sport standout at Middlebury. He recently completed his third season on the lacrosse team, earning second-team All-NESCAC accolades as a defenseman.

The Panthers open their 2012 campaign hosting Bowdoin at 1:00 p.m. on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium.
