Foote Garners Numerous Pre-Season Honors

August 26, 2013

Middlebury College quarterback McCallum Foote has earned a plethora of pre-season honors. After piling up numerous accolades following a strong 7-1 campaign in 2012, the senior already attracted national attention, being named first-team pre-season All-American quarterback by five media outlets: USA Football Network, Beyond Sports Network (BSN), Cutting Edge Sports Management (CESM), Football Gameplan and Lindy’s Sports. While Lindy’s Sports also named Foote the MVP of the yet-to-be-played 2013 season, he also earned a roster spot for the second annual Dream Bowl all-star game in January  2014, organized by CESM.

In 2012, the Newton, Massachusetts native made headlines across the country as the lone junior finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, as the “outstanding football player in Division III.” D3Football.com  tabbed Foote as a first-team All-East selection and named him the East Region Player of the Year, while the ECAC gave him first-team honors in the Northeast Region.

The NESCAC selected Foote as its Offensive Player of the Year along with three weekly NESCAC awards for on-field excellence in conference play. The New England Football Writers saluted him with the prestigious Gold Helmet Award for the second time in his career, while the Gridiron Club of  Greater Boston honored Foote with the Zabilski Award as the top player in New England for 2012.

Foote capped his stellar junior campaign completing 63.7% of his passes (256/402), with NESCAC records in passing yards (2,897) and passing TD’s (31). On the national scene, Foote led the nation in completions per game  (32/game) for the second straight season (32.43/game in 2011).  The Panthers’ pass offense was second in the nation as a team, while Foote himself was third in the country in individual passing (362.7 yards/game).  Foote sat fourth nationally in total offense (366 yards/game), as the Panther offense was sixth in Division III in first downs (25.88/game), while leading the nation in allowing the fewest tackles for loss  in a game (2.63/game).
