Benedict & Minno Earn NESCAC Honors

Middlebury College football players Matthew Benedict and Matthew Minno have both earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors. Benedict earned defensive honors, while Minno shared the offensive honors. The duo helped lead the Panthers to a 27-24 win over previously undefeated Trinity, improving their record to 5-1 on the year. Middlebury will play its final home game this Saturday when they host Hamilton at 1:00 p.m.

matthewbenedictaction13Benedict made 19 total tackles as Middlebury defeated Trinity for the third time in the last four meetings in Vermont. The junior defensive back made 10 solo stops, including one tackle for lost yardage. He made eight of his stops during the crucial fourth quarter as the teams traded leads.

Minno caught nine passes for 110 yards with a pair of touchdowns in the victory. The sophomore receiver caught a seven-yard strike in the first quarter, before scoring the game-winning touchdown on a seven-yard pass on fourth and goal over the middle with 1:12 remaining.
