Riester Earns All-NESCAC Honors

5/13/04 - Middlebury College baseball player David Riester (Appleton, Wis.) has been named to the All-NESCAC second-team. The junior led the team this season with a .405 average at the dish, starting 22 of the 23 games he played in. He scored 30 runs on the season with six doubles and 16 RBI to go along with his school-record 16 stolen bases in ’04. Riester was also one of the Panther’s top pitchers this season with a 2-4 record and a 4.38 ERA. He struck out 19 batters over 37 innings, while half of the runs scored against him were earned.

Baseball Team Ends Season At Bowdoin

5/2/04 - The Middlebury baseball team ended its season with a pair of losses at Bowdoin, one day after being eliminated from post-season contention. The teams combined for 52 runs on 51 hits in the two games. Bowdoin picked up a 15-12 win in game one, while earning a 13-12 win in eight innings during game two.

Baseball Splits With Amherst, No NESCAC Bid

5/1/04 - The Panther baseball team saw its post-season hopes come to an end as they split a double header with Amherst at Forbes Field. The Jeffs win the three-game series, 2-1, and will advance to next weekend's tournament. Middlebury will play two at Bowdoin on Sunday in its final games of the season.

Baseball Drops Game One To Amherst

4/30/04 - Middlebury gave up six unearned runs as they dropped game one of a three-game series with Amherst at Forbes Field, 9-2. The Panthers need a sweep of Saturday's double header to make the NESCAC Tournament, while the Jeffs need just one win to qualify.

St. Michael's Tops Baseball Team

4/28/04 - St. Michael's pounded out 16 hits on its way to an 11-5 win over Middlebury on Forbes Field. The win avenges an earlier season 13-9 win at St. Michael's by the Panthers. Ryan Armstrong, David Riester, Dev Talvadkar and Dom DiDomenico each had two hits on the day for Middlebury. (box)

Baseball Team Earns Split With Trinity

4/25/04 - Middlebury earned a split with the NESCAC East's top team as they topped Trinity 8-3 in game one before dropping game two, 3-2. The Panthers move to 11-12 overall, while Trinity goes to 26-5.

Panthers Split With Castleton State

4/24/04 - Middlebury and Castleton split a twinbill Saturday on a windy day at Forbes Field. The Panthers dropped game one 13-6 in eight innings before coming back to win game two, 10-9 in eight innings.

Baseball Team Outslugs St. Michael's

4/21/04 - Middlebury pounded out 16 hits and scored 13 runs as they picked up a 13-9 win at St. Michael's. The Panthers struck for five runs in the first two innings, but trailed 7-5 after four. Middlebury then plated three in the fifth and five more in innings seven through nine to pick up the win. Ryan Armstrong was 4-5 with five RBI, two doubles and a home run in the contest, while Jim Muhlfeld went 3-4. Ben Christensen picked up the win in relief. (box)

Baseball Team Drops Home-Opener

4/20/04 - Middlebury pitchers walked 10 batters and hit six as the Panthers fell 9-5 in their home-opener to Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds earned six of their nine runs, while picking up just four hits on the afternoon. Jim Muhlfeld led the Panthers with a three-run double in the seventh, while David Riester had a two-run single in the fifth. (box)

Baseball Team Wins Two Of Three At Wesleyan

4/17/04 - Middlebury took two of three at Wesleyan in a NESCAC West series over the weekend. The Panthers lost game one on Friday, 6-3 before bouncing back to win two on Saturday. Middlebury won game one, 5-4 in eight innings, while picking up a 10-6 win in game two.

Baseball Team Takes Two Of Three At Hamilton

4/10/04 - The Panther baseball team returned to action from a lengthy break after their Floriday trip. Middlebury defeated Hamilton on Friday 6-3, pounded the Continentals in game one on Saturday 18-4, before falling in the series finale, 5-2. 

Baseball Team Opens Season In Florida

3/27/04 - The Panther baseball team played 11 games down south, including three NESCAC contests with Williams to end their spring trip.
