Three Baseball Players Earn NESCAC Honors

Three members of the Middlebury College baseball team earned All-NESCAC honors when the league announced its post-season team today. Senior Mark Shimrock (Lansdale, Pa.) and junior Erich Enns (Lansdale, Pa.) were named to the first-team, while sophomore Donald McKillop (Poway, Calif.) earned second-team honors. All three players started all 30 games this season, ranking in the top three in most every offensive category. Enns was also recently named a third-team All-New England selection.

Baseball Ends Season - Shimrock Caps Impressive Career - Enns Breaks SB Mark

Wesleyan scored four runs in the eighth inning on its way to a 9-6 come-from-behind victory over Middlebury on Forbes Field. The Panthers finish the season with a 14-16 mark, while Wesleyan moves to 18-13. The Cardinals will hope for an Amherst loss to Williams on Sunday for their season to continue with a NESCAC Tournament bid.

The Bowdoin @ Middlebury baseball doubleheader scheduled for Sunday, May 3rd has been cancelled. Saturday's 3:00 p.m. game at home with Wesleyan will be Middlebury's season finale.

Baseball Earns Win At Castleton

Middlebury took a non-league game from Castleton on Tuesday, as the Panther came back from a three-run deficit in the ninth to pick up an 8-7 win on the road.

Enns Earns Player Of The Week Honors

Middlebury College baseball player Erich Enns (Lansdale, Pa.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. Enns batted .500 (8-for-16) with a .652 on-base percentage while slugging .636. He hit two home run, including a grand slam, had two doubles, six walks, four runs scored, 10 RBI, and six steals (6-for-6) in a 4-1 week for the Panthers.

Baseball Splits With Hamilton, Takes Series

Middlebury and Hamilton split a pair of NESCAC West league games on Saturday afternoon, as the Panthers took two of three overall to win the series. Hamilton earned a 9-7 come-from-behind victory in game one, before Middlebury bounced back with an 8-6 win in the nightcap.

Baseball Takes Game One In 13

Andrew Matson singled in Mark Shimrock in the bottom of the 13th inning to give Middlebury a 4-3 win over Hamilton in game one of a three-game NESCAC West series. The two teams return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.

Baseball Earns Win Over Plattsburgh

Middlebury scored six runs in the first two innings and held on for a 7-5 non-league win over Plattsburgh on Forbes Field. Matt Lowes moved to 2-0 on the season as he allowed a run on three hits over five innings of work. The Panthers return to action on Friday and Saturday when they host Hamilton in a three-game NESCAC West series.

Baseball Tops Saint Michael's

A four-run fifth inning propelled Middlebury to a 9-4 win over in-state foe St. Michael’s on Tuesday at Forbes Field. The game was the 150th meeting of the two Vermont rivals dating back to a 2-0 Panther win in 1910. Both teams return to action on Wednesday as Middlebury (10-14) hosts Plattsburgh State, while the Purple Knights (11-16) host Saint Rose.

Baseball Drops Pair At Amherst

The Amherst College baseball team scored a combined 24 runs and got a pair of stellar pitching performances during a doubleheader sweep of Middlebury on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field. After earning a 7-5 come-from-behind win in the first game, Amherst used a 12-run seventh inning to cruise to a 17-1 victory in the nightcap.

Baseball Drops Game One At Amherst

Middlebury dropped game one of a three-game NESCAC West series at Amherst by a score of 5-3. The Lord Jeffs (12-9/5-3) and Panthers (9-12/1-5) will play two on Saturday, with the first game set to begin at noon.

Baseball Beats Skidmore On Walk-Off Hit

Erich Enns’ RBI single in the bottom of the ninth capped a four run comeback for Middlebury over visiting Skidmore 15-14 at Forbes Field on Wednesday. The Panthers built an early 9-1 lead only to see the Thoroughbreds charge back in the late innings, taking a 14-11 lead into the final frame. With the win, Middlebury improves to 9-11 on the year.

Baseball Falls By A Run At St. Michael's

Middlebury put on a late charge but it wasn’t enough, as the Panthers fell 8-7 at in-state foe St. Michael’s on Doc Jacobs Field. Junior Danny Seymour went 3-for-5 with a run scored, classmate Erich Enns was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while rookie Zach Roeder finished 2-for-4 with a run driven in.

Middlebury picked up a 16-8 win over Tufts in game one, falling in the nightcap 8-1 on Forbes Field. With two wins yesterday in Medford, the Jumbos took three of four in the series. The Panthers return to action on Tuesday when they visit St. Michael’s.

Baseball Tops Plymouth State

Middlebury scored eight runs in the seventh inning Wednesday afternoon, breaking open a 5-5 game and spoiling Plymouth State University’s home opener with a 14-5 victory over the home team at Panther Park. Middlebury led 5-4 after an inning and a half, and it stayed that way until PSU plated a run in the last of the sixth inning to knot the score. The visitors came right back in the top of the seven with the eight runs to put the game away. Middlebury evens its season record at 7-7, while Plymouth State drops to 5-12.

Baseball Splits With Wesleyan

Middlebury and Wesleyan split a NESCAC West doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Forbes Field in Vermont. The Cardinals (9-9, 3-2) picked up a 9-5 win in game one, while the Panthers (6-7, 1-4) came back to earn a 13-5 victory in the nightcap. The two teams will meet again at a date to be determined later in the season for the third and final game of the series.

Wesleyan Series Moved

The Middlebury baseball three-game set with Wesleyan scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Middlebury, has been moved to Saturday and Sunday. The teams will play one nine inning game at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, followed by seven and nine inning contests beginning at noon on Sunday.

Baseball Wins Home-Opener

Erich Enns singled in Matt LoRusso in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Middlebury an 8-7 win over Southern Vermont in the team’s home-opener. The Panthers left 16 men on base in the game, while the Mountaineers stranded a dozen on a cold rainy afternoon at Forbes Field.

Baseball Team Opens In Arizona

The Panther baseball team opened up its season with 10 games played over spring break in Phoenix, Arizona. The season opened with a doubleheader split with Pomona-Pitzer, as Middlebury earned a 7-5 win before suffering an 11-6 loss. Sophomore Nick Angstman (Williston, Vt.) earned the win in game one, striking out three over four innings of work. Sophomore Donald McKillop (Poway, Calif.) went 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, including a pair of doubles and a homer. Senior Mark Shimrock (Lansdale, Pa.) was 2-3 in the game with a double, while junior Erich Enns (Lansdale, Pa.) and senior Andrew Matson (Coventry, R.I.) each doubled.
