Rudin Earns NESCAC Rookie of the Year Honors

Middlebury College men’s basketball player Ben Rudin (Scarsdale, N.Y.) has been named the NESCAC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year for the ’05-’06 season. Rudin helped lead the Panthers to a 7-0 start this season for the first time since the inaugural year of the program in 1917-18.

Men's Hoops Ends Season At Colby

The Middlebury College men's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 78-64 loss at Colby. The Panthers finish the season at 12-12 overall.

Men's Basketball Falls Late At Bowdoin

Bowdoin held off a late Middlebury rally to take a key 58-56 NESCAC victory over the Panthers on Friday evening. The Polar Bears clinch a playoff berth with the victory, while Middlebury wraps up its season tomorrow at Colby.

Men's Basketball Falls To Plattsburgh

Kris Gibbs-Smith scored 33 points on 13 of 16 shooting to lead visiting Plattsburgh to an 86-76 win over Middlebury. The Panthers return to action this weekend when they travel to Bowdoin and Colby to wrap up the regular season.

Men's Basketball Loses To Amherst

Tenth-ranked Amherst pulled away from Middlebury in the first half to win 86-78 at Pepin Gym this afternoon. Both teams shot above 50 percent from the floor, but the Jeffs controlled the backboards garnering a 40-29 advantage in rebounds. Amherst improves to 19-2, (6-1 NESCAC) as Middlebury falls to 12-9 (1-6). The Panthers return to action for their final home regular season game against Plattsburgh Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m.

Trinity Tops Men's Basketball

Trinity’s Tyler Rhoten, the NESCAC’s leading scorer, helped the Bantams fend off a Middlebury surge late in the second half to preserve a 79-68 win at Pepin Gym. The Panthers will look to bounce back tomorrow against fifth-ranked Amherst tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Pepin Gym while the Bantams head to Williams on Saturday.

Panthers Lose Tight One At Williams

The Middlebury men's basketball team suffered a 65-61 NESCAC road loss at Williams on Saturday. The Panthers shot just .324 from the floor and 4 of 20 from behind the arc, but were in the game until the final buzzer.

Men's Basketball Thumps Green Mountain

Middlebury had little trouble at Green Mountain as they handed the winless Eagles a 94-37 defeat. The Panthers closed the first half on a 20-2 run to take a 54-20 lead into the intermission.

Panther Men Defeated At Tufts

The Panthers dropped their second straight game as the men's basketball team fell 80-63 at Tufts in NESCAC play. Middlebury shot just 28 percent from the floor, with Tufts holding a 57-44 advantage on the boards.

Men's Hoops Falls At Bates

Middlebury dropped to 11-5 and 1-2 in NESCAC play as they suffered a 69-47 loss at Bates. The Bobcats controlled the boards, holding a 43-28 advantage on the night.

Men's Basketball Beats Wesleyan

Middlebury improved to 11-4 overall and 1-1 in NESCAC play as they defeated Wesleyan (6-8, 0-2) 82-72 in the Pepin Gym. The Panthers return to action next weekend at Bates and Tufts.

Men's Hoops Loses Heartbreaker To Conn.

Connecticut College took its only lead of the game when Jeff Young knocked down a pair of free throws with five seconds left, boosting the Camels a 68-67 win over Middlebury in the NESCAC opener for both teams.

Men's Basketball Wins 10th

The Middlebury men’s basketball team moved to 10-3 on the season as they defeated Colby-Sawyer 79-74 in the Pepin Gym. The Panthers return to action this Friday and Saturday when they host Connecticut College and Wesleyan in the opening weekend of NESCAC play.    

Men's Basketball Tops UNE

Middlebury moved to 9-3 on the year with a 61-50 win over the University of New England in the first ever meeting between the two teams. The Panthers return to action on Tuesday when they play the second game of a double header at 7:30 p.m. against Colby-Sawyer in the Pepin Gym.

The Middlebury College men's basketball team improved to 8-3 overall as they picked up a 64-48 road win at Skidmore.

Norwich Tops Middlebury

Norwich held Middlebury to just .207 shooting from the floor in the first half, and .306 in the game as the Cadets picked up a 76-59 road win at Middlebury.

Men's Basketball Falls At Plymouth

Middlebury opened up its second semester with a road loss to an 8-1 Plymouth State team. The Panthers fall to 7-2 on the season.

Men's Hoops Falls To Hamilton, Ends Semester 7-1

12/10/05 - Middlebury saw its seven-game winning streak to start the season come to an end as they fell to Hamilton (7-0), 92-84. The game was played before a crowd of 825 fans at the Pepin Gym, that saw the Panthers end their semester at 7-1.

Middlebury Rolls Johnson State

12/8/05 - Middlebury tied the school record for its best ever start as they moved to 7-0 with a convincing 81-57 win at Johnson State. The seven straight wins to open the season equal the effort of the 1917-18 squad, which finished the season at 7-0. The Panther will try to break the mark when they host undefeated Hamilton on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

12/6/05 - Middlebury earned another victory as they picked a 69-65 road win at Rensselaer. The Panthers move to 6-0 and improve on their best start since the 1917-18 team finished at 7-0.

Men's Hoops Remains Unbeaten

12/3/05 - The Middlebury College men’s basketball team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 68-64 win over Union (2-1). With the win, the Panthers are now 5-0 for the first time since the team’s inaugural season in 1917-18.

Panthers Top S. Vermont

12/2/05 - Middlebury moved to 4-0 for the first time since the 1944-45 season, with a 76-62 road win over Southern Vermont. The Panthers return to action when they host Union on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Men's Hoops Moves To 3-0

11/29/05 - Middlebury placed five players in double figures with an 88-63 win over Castleton State in the Pepin Gym. The Panthers broke open a tight game in the second half with a 21-1 run to take a commanding 62-39 lead with 11:58 remaining. Middlebury shot well from the floor, connecting on .516 percent of its shots, while forcing 23 Castleton turnovers.

Men's Hoops Wins Home-Opener

11/27/05 - Middlebury’s Mike Walsh scored in the paint with 35 seconds remaining, giving Middlebury a 68-66 lead over St. Lawrence which they would not relinquish. The Panthers move to 2-0 on the season, while the Saints fall to 1-3.

Men's Basketball Wins Season-Opener

11/22/05 - Middlebury won its season-opener as they earned a 74-57 win at St. Joseph's of Vermont. The Panthers opened the game on a 15-2 run, sparked by seven points from Evan Thompson. St. Joseph's hung tough and trailed 34-23 at the half. Middlebury extended its lead to 13 in the second half before a 7-2 run cut the lead to six with 11:04 left to play. The Panthers slowly increased their lead, leading by 10 or more for the remainder of the game.
