Ryan Leads Four Panthers With More All-East Awards

More post-season awards were handed out recently as four Middlebury College football players were selected to Don Hansen's Football Gazette Division III all-East Region team. Senior defensive lineman Kevin Ryan (Shelton, Conn.) earned First Team accolades; junior linebacker Erik Woodring (Cos Cob, Conn.) made the Third Team, while seniors Jamie Staples (Pacific Gove, Calif.) and Steve Hauschka (Needham, Mass.) were tabbed as Honorable Mentions at tight end and punter respectively.

Middlebury College football players Steve Hauschka (Needham, Mass.) and Kevin Ryan (Shelton, Conn.) have been named to the D3football.com second-team All-East team. The two seniors helped lead the Panthers to a solid 6-2 record this season, earning them third place the league standings.

Hauschka Earns Academic Honors

Middlebury College kicker Steve Hauschka (Needham, Mass.) has been a District I Academic All-American by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association). The senior is a neuroscience major at Middlebury, currently owning a GPA of 3.54 through last spring. He will now be placed on a national ballot, with the team being named in December.

The two seniors helped lead the Panthers to a solid 6-2 record this season, earning them third place the league standings.

Seven Football Players Honored By The NESCAC

Seven members of the Middlebury College football team earned post-season honors today when the NESCAC announced its all-conference teams. Seniors Jamie Staples (Pacific Grove, Calif.), Steve Hauschka (Needham, Mass.) and Kevin Ryan (Shelton, Conn.), along with junior Erik Woodring (Cos Cob, Conn.) earned first-team honors. Seniors Stefan Hrdina (W. Redding, Conn.) and Scott Secor (Odessa, Mich.), along with junior Chad Guerrero (Essex, Vt.) were named to the second-team. The group helped lead the Panthers to an impressive 6-2 record this season, with sole possession of third place in the league standings.

Football Blanks Hamilton - Ryan Sets NESCAC Record

Middlebury’s Kevin Ryan set a new NESCAC record for sacks in a season as the Panthers picked up a 10-0 win over Hamilton on Steuben Field in New York. The nation's leader in sacks recorded three of Middlebury’s six sacks to give him 13.5 sacks this year.

Football Falls To Trinity

The Middlebury College football team could only muster up 67 yards of offense as they fell to Trinity, 34-3 in Hartford, Conn. The Panthers fall to 4-2 on the season, while Trinity improves to 5-1, including 35 wins in their last 36 games. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in New England, earns its fourth win in a row, its 22nd consecutive home win, and its 35th win in its last 36 games.

Middlebury Thumps Bates

The Middlebury College football team ran its record to 4-1 on the season as they handed Bates (0-5) a 31-7 loss on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. The Panthers gained 324 yards of total offense on the day, while holding the Bobcats to 196. Middlebury quarterback Tiger Lyon accounted for all four Panther touchdowns on the afternoon.

Football Suffers First Loss Of The Season

The Middlebury College football team suffered its first loss of the season as Williams (4-0) handed the Panthers a 40-9 loss. The Ephs scored 17 points on three Middlebury turnovers, outscoring Middlebury 20-0 in the second half.

Football Tops Amherst - Moves To 3-0

The Middlebury College football team moved to 3-0 for the first time since the ’92 team opened 5-0, as they defeated Amherst (2-1) 7-3 on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. Middlebury’s Kevin Ryan picked up two more sacks in the game, setting a new school record with 9.5 sacks in a season after just three games. The Panther defense has not allowed a touchdown in its last two games, allowing just 3.33 points/game this season. Middlebury will travel to Williams next week, while Amherst hosts Colby.

Hauschka Is NESCAC Player of the Week

Middlebury College football player Steve Hauschka (Needham, Mass.) has been named the NESCAC defensive player of the week. The senior kicker/punter helped move Middlebury to 2-0 on the season with a 23-0 win at Colby.

Hauschka was instrumental in Saturday’s win at Colby, punting the ball eight times for 345 yards with a long of 53 yards. Four of his punts landed inside the 20, which was the Mule’s average field position on the afternoon. The senior also split the uprights with a 28-yard field goal, while booming several kick-offs into the end zone.

Woodring Is NESCAC & ECAC Player of the Week

Middlebury College football player Erik Woodring (Cos Cob, Conn.) has been named the NESCAC and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading Middlebury to a 10-7 win over Wesleyan in the season-opener.

Woodring had a solid day for the Panther defense, collecting 14 tackles, eight of which were solo. He and the Middlebury defense held Wesleyan to just one touchdown on the day, as Woodring broke up a pair of passes on the afternoon.

Football Opens With Win Over Wesleyan

The Middlebury College football team picked up a 10-7 win over Wesleyan in the season-opener for both teams on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. Stefan Hrdina gained 139 yards rushing to lead the Middlebury offense, while Erik Woodring picked up a team-high 14 tackles. Wesleyan drops its 11th consecutive game, dating back to November of ’04.

Coaches Show With Bob Ritter To Air On WFAD

As part of ESPN 1490, WFAD's expanded coverage of Middlebury College football, the station is pleased to announce the debut of "The Coaches Show with Bob Ritter" on September 21st at 7:00 p.m. The show will air every Thursday through the Panther season.

Armstrong Honored By NFF

Middlebury College athlete Ryan Armstrong (Whitman, Mass.) has been named a 2006 Vermont Collegiate Scholar-Athlete by the Vermont Chapter of the National Football Foundation. The senior will be honored at a banquet held on May 7th at Middlebury College.
