Cooper To Appear In Sports Illustrated

4/8/04 - Middlebury College men’s hockey player Kevin Cooper (Mississauga, Ont.) will appear in the “Faces In The Crowd” section of Sports Illustrated in the April 12th issue that hits newsstands on April 8th. Cooper is the 11th person from Middlebury College to appear in the section since 1996.

Beaney Is Named National Coach Of The Year

4/5/04 - Middlebury College men’s hockey coach Bill Beaney has been named the winner of the 2004 Edward Jeremiah Award, given annually to the Divison III Men’s Ice Hockey Coach of the Year. It marks a record-tying third Jeremiah Award for Beaney, who also received this honor in 1990 and 1995.

Men's Hockey Captures NCAA Championship

3/20/04 - NORTHFIELD, VT - The Panther men’s hockey team capped an amazing season by winning its sixth NCAA Championship. Middlebury has won more championships and more NCAA Tournament games than any other team in Division III Men’s Hockey Championship history. The 27 wins this season are also a school record.

Cooper Named National Player Of The Year

3/19/04 - Middlebury College men’s hockey player Kevin Cooper (Mississauga, Ont.) has been named the AHCA (American Hockey Coaches Association) Division III National Player of the Year. Along with the honor, he was also selected as a first-team All-American. He is the fourth Panther to win the award, following Mark Spence ’98, Ian Smith ’96 and Ray Alcindor ’93.

Men's Hockey Heading To Norwich For Final Four

3/18/04 - The Middlebury College men’s ice hockey team will make its seventh final four appearance in the last 10 years at Norwich University this weekend. Middlebury advanced to the semifinals after a convincing 9-1 win over Wentworth in the quarterfinals at the Kenyon Arena. The Panthers qualified for the NCAA tourney with a 6-2 win over Trinity in the NESCAC title game.

3/13/04 - Middlebury improved to 23-5-2 in NCAA Tournament play as they topped Wentworth 9-1 in an NCAA Quarterfinal game. The Panthers will make their seventh final four appearance in the last 10 years on Friday against Norwich at Norwich. Gametime is 7:00, while St. Norbert will meet Plattsburgh at 3:30 in the other semifinal. Kevin Cooper paced the Panther offense with three goals and two assists on the night. (box)

Dawson Earns Player Of The Week Honors

3/8/04 - Middlebury College men’s hockey player John Dawson (New Canaan, Conn.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week.

 

Dawson scored two goals in Middlebury's NESCAC Championship win over Trinity. The NESCAC title was the fourth for Middlebury in the five years the tournament has existed. The senior captain has 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points on the season, as he leads the team to its 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend.

Cooper Earns Player of the Week Honors

2/23/04 - Middlebury College men's hockey player Kevin Cooper (Mississauga, Ont.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week in hockey.

Cooper scored a hat-trick, including a goal six seconds into the game, as #3 Middlebury defeated #1 Norwich 6-2 in front of a sold out crowd of 2,600 at the Kenyon Arena. Cooper also assisted on a goal in the game, while netting his third 7:25 into the third period to seal the win. The senior now leads the team and the NESCAC with 42 points on the season.

2/21/04 - Before a sellout crowd of 2,600 at the Kenyon Arena in Middlebury, the #3 Panthers defeated in-state rival and top-ranked Norwich, 6-2, in the first meeting of the year between the two schools. Middlebury will begin post-season action next weekend in as they host Tufts in the NESCAC quarterfinals on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (box)

Men's Hockey Falls At Trinity, Still Has #1 Seed In NESCAC Tourney

2/14/04 - Middlebury saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end as they fell 2-1 at Trinity. Despite the loss, the Panthers clinched the top seed in the NESCAC Tournament with a late-night (Friday) loss by Bowdoin to Salem State in overtime. The Panthers will have home ice for the tournament as far as they go, beginning with the quarterfinals on February 28th. (box)

2/4/04 - The Middlebury College men’s hockey team will offer a “Skate With The Panthers” following this Saturday’s (February 7th) game (4:00 p.m.) against Hamilton. Fans are encouraged to bring their skates and take part in the event with members of the Middlebury College men’s hockey team. The skate is expected to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m. Players with be available to chat and sign autographs during the event, which is expected to last until 7:30 p.m. Also, all-youth hockey players wearing their jersey to the game, will be admitted for free.
