Maldonado Named All-American/All-New Enland

Middlebury College men’s hockey player Tom Maldonado (Bronx, N.Y.) has been named a first-team All-American and All-New England selection for the second consecutive season. The junior defenseman was also recently honored with the Joe Concannon award, given to New England’s best American-born hockey player at the Division II-III level.

Maldonado Earns Prestigeous Concannon Award

Gridiron Club of Greater Boston president Al Robichaud announced today that senior defenseman Tom Maldonado of Middlebury College is the winner of the eighth annual Joe Concannon Award, which recognizes New England’s best American-born hockey player at the Division II-III level.

Men's Hockey Falls To Trinity In NESCAC Title Game - No NCAA Bid

The Middlebury men's hockey team fell 3-2 in double overtime to Trinity in the NESCAC Championship game played at Colby. The Panthers were not selected to the NCAA Tournament, ending a 13-year streak, and finish their season at 18-7-2. Middlebury and Trinity are the only two teams to win NESCAC titles since the tournament began, with the Panthers owning seven titles and the Bantams claiming a pair.

The Middlebury College men’s hockey team will make its ninth consecutive trip in the NESCAC semifinals as they travel to Colby this weekend. The Panthers will take on Amherst at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the host school meets Trinity at 1:00 p.m. The winners meet for the NESCAC Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the Middlebury box office during normal business hours Tuesday afternoon through Friday at 3:00 p.m. and are priced at $5 for adults and $2 for students.

Men's Hockey Tops Williams - Headed To NESCAC Semi's

Middlebury has advanced to the NESCAC semifinals after a 6-0 win over Williams in a quarterfinal game played in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers will meet Amherst next weekend at 4:00 p.m. at Colby, while the host school takes on Trinity at 1:00 p.m. The NESCAC Championship game will be played at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Middlebury moves to 17-6-2 overall, while Williams ends its season at 9-12-4.

Men's Hockey Ends Regular Season With Win Over Hamilton

Middlebury wrapped up its regular season with a 5-2 win over Hamilton. The Panthers have earned the second seed in the NESCAC Tournament and will host seventh-seeded Williams next Saturday at 4:00 in a quarterfinal contest. Colby has earned the top spot and will have home ice as far as they advance.

Men's Hockey Tops Amherst

Middlebury kept its hope of earning the top seed in the NESCAC Tournament alive as they picked up a 4-2 win over Amherst on Friday night in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers trail first-place Bowdoin by two points and second-place Colby by one heading into the final day of play on Saturday.

Men's Hockey Drops Third Straight

The Middlebury men's hockey team dropped its third straight game as the Panthers dropped a 4-3 decision at UMass.-Boston. Middlebury out shot its opponent 45-25 on the afternoon, but it wasn’t enough as they went 2/8 on the power play. The Panthers will wrap up their regular season next weekend when they host Amherst and Hamilton.

Men's Hockey Loses at Babson

Middlebury continued to struggle as they fell 4-2 at Babson. The Panthers are now 1-3-1 in their last five contests and will return to action at UMass.-Boston on Saturday afternoon.

Men's Hockey Shutout By Norwich

Middlebury suffered its first D3 home shutout loss since January of ’81 as fifth-ranked Norwich picked up a 3-0 win over the seventh-ranked Panthers. Ironically, that shutout loss 27 years ago was a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Norwich. The meeting was the 138th between the schools and the second this season, with Norwich winning a 5-2 decision in November at PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout in Plattsburgh.

Men's Hockey Tops St. Michael's

Middlebury got back on the winning track with three third period goals on its way to a 7-4 win over St. Michael’s in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers used six different goals scorers in the game, as they outshot the Purple Knights 39-13.

Trinity Knocks Off Men's Hockey

Middlebury outshot Trinity 33-21 but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers dropped a 4-1 decision on the road at Trinity. The Bantams improve to 9-6-2 overall and 5-5-2 in NESCAC action, while Middlebury drops to 13-3-2 and 9-2-3 in league play.

Men's Hockey Earns Tie At Wesleyan

The Middlebury men's hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to 11 games (10-0-1) as they earned a 2-2 tie on the road at Wesleyan. The Cardinals tied the game with just 22 seconds left on a goal from David Layne with the extra attacker, forcing the game into overtime.

Beaney Wins 500th As Middlebury Tops N.E.C.

Middlebury improved its winning streak to 10 games as they picked up a 6-3 road win at New England College. The win was the 500th of his career for Middlebury coach Bill Beaney, who earned his first 86 victories at N.E.C. ('79-'86). Beaney is just the 18th coach in college hockey history to amass 500 wins, sporting a career record of 500-191-45 (28 years), 414-115-28 (21 years at Middlebury). He is currently second among active Division III coaches in wins, while ranking fourth all-time in victories.

Men's Hockey Defeats St. Anselm

Middlebury won its ninth straight game as they picked up a 2-1 road win at St. Anselm. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-6-3 overall, 3-6-3 ECAC East/NESCAC, while the win improves the Panthers to 12-2-1, 8-1-1 in league play.

Gilchrist Is Player Of The Week

Middlebury College men's hockey player Mickey Gilchrist (Ottawa, Ont.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The senior recorded four goals and three assists during a 3-0 week for the Panthers. Gilchrist potted the game-winner during Tuesday’s victory at Williams before scoring three goals and three assists during Middlebury’s wins over Bowdoin and Colby, including the decisive goal during Friday’s victory over the Polar Bears.

Middlebury (11-2-1) extended its winning streak to eight games as the Panthers picked up a 4-1 win over Colby in Kenyon Arena. Middlebury outshot the Mules 35-19 on the night, taking over sole possession of first place in the NESCAC with a 7-1-1 mark in league play. Colby moves to 7-6 overall, 6-3 in the league.

Five Second Period Goals Lifts Men's Hockey Over Bowdoin

Middlebury scored five straight goals in the second period on its way to a 9-4 win over Bowdoin. The Panthers trailed the Polar Bears 2-1 after one period, but scored 8 of the game’s next 9 goals to earn the win. Middlebury scored 9 goals on 17 shots on the night, but were outshot 20-17. The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for Bowdoin, who returns to action at Williams on Saturday. Middlebury hosts Colby at 4:00 on Saturday.

Men's Hockey Wins At Williams

Mickey Gilchrist converted a Trevor Dodds pass with only 2:23 remaining, lifting Middlebury to a 2-1 road win at Williams on Tuesday night. The Panthers out-shot the Ephs 42-20 on the night, as Panther goaltender Doug Raeder made 19 saves to earn the win.

Maldonado Earns Player Of The Week Honors

Middlebury College men’s hockey player Tom Maldonado (Bronx, N.Y.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The senior defender had a goal and four assists for five points during a pair of wins for the Panthers. In addition to recording an assist, Maldonado tallied the game-winning goal with 40 seconds remaining during Friday’s 4-3 win over Castleton. Saturday afternoon, Maldonado had three assists in a 5-1 victory over Skidmore. Maldonado is tied for third among conference defensemen with two goals and 10 assists for 12 points.

Men's Hockey Cruises Past Skidmore

Middlebury scored four second period goals on the way to a 6-1 win over Skidmore College, Saturday at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. The win was the fifth straight for the 12th ranked Panthers who improve to 8-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in ECAC East/NESCAC play. The Thoroughbreds fall to 3-7-2 and 0-6-1.

Late Goal Lifts Men's Hockey Over Castleton

Middlebury took its first and only lead of the game on a Tom Maldonado goal with 40 seconds left, as the Panthers earned a 4-3 road win at in-state foe Castleton.

Men's Hockey Captures Holiday Classic

Trailing 1-0 in the third period, Middlebury scored three unanswered goals en route to 3-1 win over Lake Forest in the 16th annual Middlebury College Holiday Classic. Mack Cummins had two goals and and assist to earn tournament M.V.P. honors.

Men's Hockey Advances To Tourney Final

Middlebury advanced to the finals of the 16th annual Middlebury College Holiday Classic with a 6-4 win over Brockport. The Panthers will take on Lake Forest, a 6-3 winner over Skidmore, in the title game Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Brockport meets Skidmore in the consolation game at 4:00 p.m.

Men's Hockey Downs Plattsburgh

Middlebury picked up a key win in its final game of the semester as the Panthers topped Plattsburgh 3-2 in Kenyon Arena. Middlebury led the game 3-0 until the waning minutes when the Cardinals pulled their goaltender and scored twice to make it a 3-2 final.

Men's Hockey Falls To S. Maine

Southern Maine picked up its second win over Middlebury in as many years as they earned a 3-1 victory in Kenyon Arena. The Huskies remain undefeated at 5-0-1, while the Panthers fall to 3-2-1 on the year.

Men's Hockey Wins Home-Opener

Middlebury held a 3-0 lead over Salem State and held on for a 3-2 victory in the team’s home-opener in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers held a 30-10 shots advantage in the game and return to action on Saturday at 4:00 against Southern Maine.

Men's Hockey Holds Off St. John's

Middlebury led 3-0 and held off a late surge by St. John's as the Panthers picked up a 4-3 win in the consolation game of the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout at Plattsburgh.

Men's Hockey Falls To Norwich

The men's hockey team gave up four power play goals as they fell 5-2 to Norwich in the first round of the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout at Plattsburgh. The Panthers return to action in the consolation game on Saturday at 4:00.

Men's Hockey Beats Tufts

The Middlebury men’s hockey team picked up its first win of the season as they earned a 5-1 win at Tufts on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers outshot the Jumbos 39-10 on the afternoon, scoring two goals in the first and three in the third period.

Men's Hockey Opens With A Tie

Middlebury opened up its season with a 2-2 tie at Connecticut College. Conn.’s Jordan Gray tallied the equalizer for the hosts with just 1:30 remaining in regulation. Ryan Riffe had a goal and an assist for the Camels, while Greg Parker finished with 35 saves in net for Connecticut College.

Men's Hockey To Host Blue/White & Alumni Game

The Middlebury College men’s hockey team will host its annual Blue/White game on Saturday, November 10th at 6:00 p.m. in Kenyon Arena. There will also be an alumni three-on-three tournament going on Saturday from 12--5:00 and again on Sunday from 9-12:00.

Beaney Among Elite

Middlebury College men’s hockey and golf coach Bill Beaney has been listed among the 100 Most Influential Sports Educators by the Institute for International Sport. Other notables joining the school’s 21-year veteran on the list were UCLA legend John Wooden, Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, Penn State football coach Joe Paterno and Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt.

Beaney To Enter Lake Placid Hall Of Fame

Middlebury men’s hockey coach Bill Beaney, actor and writer John (Jack) Kendrick, and artist Helyn (Rusty) Hovey McKenna have been voted this year’s class into the Lake Placid Hall of Fame. The 24th annual induction dinner and ceremony will be held Saturday, October 13, at the Comfort Inn Banquet Room in Lake Placid.
