Stone Drafted By Boston

Mike Stone has been drafted by the Boston Blazers professional lacrosse team. The ’09 Middlebury graduate was the 59th overall selection in the draft and will look to suit up for his hometown team this winter when the season begins in January. The former Panther had an amazing career at Middlebury, ending his four-years with 124 goals and 48 assists for 172 points in 69 games.

Peter Kohn Passes Away

Beloved lacrosse manager and longtime Middlebury College friend, Myron G. “Peter” Kohn, 77, passed away on Aug. 5 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. The lacrosse legend was unable to recover from a heart attack he suffered on a fishing trip near his home in Cape May, N.J., on Aug. 1.

Campbell Earns M.V.P. Honors

Middlebury men's lacrosse player Dave Campbell recently turned in an impressive performance at the East/West Senior All-Star game. The senior earned M.V.P. honors as his west team earned a 17-12 win in the game played at Tufts on June 1st. Campbell scored three goals with an assist in the game.

Men's Lax Players Earn Post-Season Honors - Stone Is Three-Time All-American

Three members of the Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team were honored as several post-season teams were announced. Seniors Mike Stone (Boston, Mass.), Skyler Hopkins (Easton, Md.) and Dave Campbell (Boise, Idaho) were all honored as the threesome helped lead the Panthers to a 15-3 record in ’09, with a trip to the NCAA semifinals.

The Middlebury men’s lacrosse team saw its season come to an end with a 16-8 loss at Cortland State in an NCAA Semifinal game. The fourth-ranked Red Dragons closed the game with a 9-2 second-half run to defeat seventh-ranked Middlebury. Cortland advances to next Sunday’s title game against Gettysburg, while the Panthers end their season with an impressive 15-3 mark.

The Panthers (15-2) will travel to Cortland (6-5 winner over WNEC) for an NCAA Semifinal game on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the national title game at Gillette Stadium on May 24th. The win over Wesleyan avenges both of Middlebury's losses this season at the hands of the Cardinals, who end their season at 15-4. Four members of the Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team earned All-NESCAC honors today when the league announced its honors. Senior Mike Stone (Boston, Mass.) earned NESCAC Player of the Year honors for the second-straight season, while head coach Dave Campbell was named the NESCAC Coach of the Year. Joining Stone on the first team was senior Skyler Hopkins (Easton, Md.), while senior Dave Campbell (Boise Idaho) and junior Pete Smith (Wilton, Conn.) earned second-team honors. Third-year head coach Dave Campbell earned NESCAC Coach of the Year honors, after leading the team to a 13-2 record with its 12th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Panthers are preparing for an NCAA second-round game, which they will host this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Men's Lacrosse Falls To Wesleyan In NESCAC Semi's

Dan Latzman scored driving to the goal from eight yards out just 36 seconds into overtime, giving Wesleyan a 15-14 win over Middlebury in a NESCAC semifinal game played in Vermont.  Middlebury is expected to get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when the pairings are announced Sunday night.

Trailing 8-2 in the third quarter against Williams, Middlebury went on a 8-1 run in the third quarter en route to a 13-11 victory at Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium on Friday. The second-ranked Panthers (12-1, 8-1) have won 11 straight games and will host Amherst in a Quarterfinal NESCAC playoff game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Stone Is NESCAC Player Of The Week Again

Middlebury College men’s lacrosse player Mike Stone (Boston, Mass.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week for the second time this season. Stone continued his torrid scoring pace for the Panthers, tallying 11 goals along with an assist to help his team go 2-0 last week. During an 18-15 win at Skidmore on Tuesday evening, Stone netted a personal-best seven goals. He followed on Saturday with four goals and an assist in a 12-11 win at Trinity, burying the game-winning goal with 24 seconds left in the contest to guarantee Middlebury the top seed in the 2009 NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship. Stone now has 26 goals in his last six games and leads the NESCAC with 3.5 goals/game (42-8-50) on the season.

Men's Lacrosse Wins At Trinity - Clinch Top Seed

Mike Stone scored four goals including the game-winner with 26 seconds on the clock to lead Middlebury to a 12-11 win over Trinity in a battle of nationally ranked NESCAC teams on Saturday at Campus Field. Trinity, ranked 19th in the nation, falls to 10-4 overall and 4-4 in the NESCAC while the third-ranked Panthers improve to 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the league. With the win, the Panthers clinch the top seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinals game on Sunday, April 26th at 1:00 p.m.

Stone Nets Seven At Men's Lax Wins At Skidmore

Middlebury picked up a non-league road win, earning an 18-15 win at Skidmore on Tuesday. The third-ranked Panthers improve to 10-1 overall, while the Thoroughbreds fall to 6-5. The game was tied 5-5 at the end of the first quarter and Skidmore led 9-8 before Middlebury's Tom Petty scored with three seconds to go in the second to tie it 9-9 at the break.

Men's Lacrosse Outlasts Tufts

Mike Stone’s goal at 6:03 in the fourth proved to be the difference, giving Middlebury an 11-10 victory over Tufts on Saturday at Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. The Jumbos had two opportunities to tie the game in the final minute, but were denied the equalizer. In the battle of two nationally ranked teams, the fourth-ranked Panthers improve to 9-1 and 6-1 in NESCAC play, while 10th ranked Tufts drops to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in conference action. With the win, Middlebury takes over sole possession of first place in the conference.

Mike Stone’s six goals tied his freshly-minted career-high set three days previous to lead Middlebury to an 11-6 victory over Rensselaer on Tuesday at Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. The fourth-ranked Panthers improve to 8-1 on the year, while the Red Hawks record evens at 5-5 overall. The six goals allowed was a season-best for the Middlebury defense as goaltender Pete Britt stopped 13 shots en route to the win. The Panthers return to action, hosting Tufts in a key NESCAC match-up on Saturday at 2 p.m., while Rensselaer will host SUNY Cobleskill on Thursday.

Stone Named Player Of The Week

Middlebury College men’s lacrosse player Mike Stone (Boston, Mass.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The senior middie tallied seven goals and two assists while also scooping up three ground balls in road victories over Amherst and Bowdoin last week. On Wednesday at Amherst, Stone had a goal and two assists in a 13-11 win. He followed on Saturday with six goals as the Panthers edged Bowdoin 14-13. Stone and the fourth-ranked Panthers will host Rensselaer on Tuesday at 4:30 and #10 Tufts on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Bowdoin

Middlebury’s Mike Stone scored six goals as the seventh-ranked Panther lacrosse team survived a furious second-half rally from 13th-ranked Bowdoin in a NESCAC game on Saturday in Maine. The Panthers, who squandered a seven-goal lead and trailed with eight minutes remaining, improve to 7-1 (5-1 NESCAC) as Bowdoin (7-2, 4-1) falls in conference play for the first time this season.

Men's Lacrosse With NESCAC Road Win At Amherst

Middlebury won its fifth straight game as the Panthers picked up a 13-11 NESCAC road win at Amherst. Amherst’s Tom McDonnel scored the first goal of the game less than two minutes into the first quarter, finishing off a feed from Brett Miller. Middlebury’s Tom Petty responded to score a pair of goals with 12:47, and 10:39, to play in the first quarter, putting the Panthers on top 2-1.

Smith Named NESCAC Player Of The Week

Middlebury College men’s lacrosse player Pete Smith (Wilton, Conn.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. Smith had a 10-point week as the Panthers went 2-0, earning victories over Washington & Lee and Colby. During Tuesday’s decision over Washington & Lee, Smith assisted on six of Middlebury’s 12 goals in a 12-10 win. He followed on Saturday at home with a goal and three assists for a 15-10 Panther victory against the Mules. Smith also scooped up nine ground balls during the week. He leads the Panthers and is second in the NESCAC with 20 assists through six games.

Men's Lacrosse Earns NESCAC Win Over Colby

Middlebury went on a six goal run, breaking open a 7-7 game against Colby for a 15-10 NESCAC victory on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium on Saturday. The Panthers took the lead four times in the first half, only to see the Mules fight back to tie the contest each time. The 11th ranked Panthers improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in conference.

Men's Lacrosse Tops W&L

Middlebury handed sixth-ranked Washington and Lee its first loss of the season, as the 11th-ranked Panthers earned a 12-10 win in a neutral site game at Catholic University. The Generals (8-1) held a 5-3 lead at the break, but the Panthers (4-1) scored nine second-half goals, including five tallies in the opening 5:36 of the third quarter, to come away with their second straight win in the series.

Men's Lax Holds Off Conn. College

Trailing 4-3 in the second quarter, Middlebury went on a 6-0 run en route to an 11-8 NESCAC victory over Conn. College on Saturday at Alumni Stadium. During the run, the Panthers (3-1, 2-1 in NESCAC) held the Camels (2-4, 0-3) scoreless for nearly half the game.

Men's Lacrosse Defeats Springfield

A six goal first quarter propelled Middlebury past visiting Springfield 11-7 on Wednesday. Middlebury has won 10 of the last 12 games against the Pride (2-3) and hold a 26-10 lead in the series. The Panthers (2-1) return to NESCAC play this Saturday as the 10th ranked Panthers host Conn. College.

Men's Lax Suffers 8-7 Loss At Wesleyan

Wesleyan senior Russ Follansbee scored three goals and added an assist for a four-point game as homestanding Wesleyan, ranked 17th in the latest USILA Division III poll, held off fourth-ranked Middlebury, 8-7, despite five goals from Panther senior Matt Ferrer.

Men's Lacrosse Wins Season-Opener

Middlebury overcame a pair of three goal deficits in the first half en route to a 16-13 victory over Bates College at Kohn Field on Saturday. Last season’s NESCAC Player of the Year Mike Stone began the 2009 season red-hot, scoring five goals on only six shots, keying the victory. With the win, the fourth-ranked Panthers (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) improve their unbeaten streak against the Bobcats (0-2 overall, 0-1 NESCAC) to 22-0 all-time. Middlebury returns to action, travelling to Wesleyan for a NESCAC tilt next Saturday, while Bates hosts Western New England College in a non-league contest on Wednesday.

Middlebury men's lacrosse player Dave Campbell recently contributed an article to ESPN.com regarding choosing Division I vs. choosing Division III. Campbell is a senior captain for the Panthers, who begin practice for the upcoming season on February 15th.
