Six Men's Lacrosse Players Named All-American, Other Honors Handed Out

6/3/04 - Six members of the Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team earned All-American honors when the STX/USILA All-American teams were announced. Seniors Mike Saraceni (N. Syracuse, N.Y.) and Eric Krieger (Princeton, N.J.) were named to the first team, senior John West (New Canaan, Conn.) earned second-team honors, while senior Greg Bastis (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and junior Ed Brown (Baltimore, Md.) were both third-team selections. Senior Charley Howe (Darien, Conn.) earned honorable mention honors. The six players led the Panthers to their fourth consecutive NESCAC Championship and seventh straight trip to the NCAA Tournament this season, with an overall record of 16-2.

Men's Lacrosse Falls In NCAA Semifinals

5/23/04 - Nazareth (16-2) controlled the possession for much of the first three quarters as they were able to defeat Middlebury (16-2) 12-8 in an NCAA semifinal match-up. The Golden Flyers will take on Salisbury, a 13-11 winner over Washington College, in the NCAA Championship next Sunday at noon. The loss is the first for Middlebury in an NCAA semifinal, as their tournament record falls to 21-5. The defeat also snaps a 45-game run on Youngman Field, a winning-streak that dates back to April of ’97.

Men's Lax Prepares To Host Nazareth In NCAA Semifinals

5/20/04 - Middlebury will host Nazareth in one of two NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse semifinal match-ups on Sunday, May 23rd. The game will take place at 3:00 p.m., following Middlebury College’s graduation. Washington College of Maryland will visit Salisbury University in the tournament’s other semifinal. The winners will meet for the NCAA Championship at noon on Sunday, May 30th at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland.

Men's Lax Rolls Over Stevens, Headed To NCAA Semi's

5/19/04 - Middlebury held an 11-1 halftime lead and never looked back as they picked up a 17-5 win over Stevens Institute in an NCAA quarterfinal game on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. The Panthers will host Nazareth, a 10-8 winner over Cortland, on Sunday in the NCAA semifinals at 3:00 p.m. The win is the 45th straight for the Panthers on Youngman Field, a streak that dates back to April of ’97.

Men's Lacrosse To Host NCAA Quarterfinals

5/18/04 - Middlebury will host Stevens Institute in an NCAA quarterfinal men’s lacrosse game on Wednesday, May 19th at 3:00 p.m. The winner will take on the victor of the Nazareth/Cortland game played on the same day. A Middlebury win would secure them a home date for the NCAA semifinals this Sunday.

5/16/04 - Middlebury outscored Geneseo 8-1 in the second half on its way to a 14-5 win in an NCAA first-round match-up. The Panthers will host Stevens Institute, an 8-4 winner over Springfield, in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

Saraceni Earns Player of the Week Honors

5/10/04 - Middlebury College men’s lacrosse player Mike Saraceni (N. Syracuse, N.Y.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week.

Saraceni helped lead the Panthers to their fourth consecutive NESCAC Championship with four goals and three assists in the title game against Wesleyan. The senior was in on seven of 12 goals in the 12-7 championship win, while dishing out two assists in the semifinal victory over Amherst. He leads the team to its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend with 26 goals and 35 assists for 61 points.

5/10/04 - Middlebury will make its seventh straight and eighth overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament this Sunday. The Panthers will host Geneseo, a 19-4 winner over Endicott, at 1:00 p.m. on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. If victorious, Middlebury would host an NCAA Quarterfinal game on Wednesday, May 19th.

Men's Lacrosse Wins Fourth Straight NESCAC Title

5/9/04 - Middlebury won its fourth straight NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship as they defeated Wesleyan 12-7 on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. The Panthers will make their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend when they host the winner of the Endicott/Geneseo game played on Wednesday. The game will be played on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

5/8/04 - Middlebury held Amherst scoreless for the game’s final 28:25 on its way to a 7-2 win in the NESCAC Semifinals. The Panthers will take on Wesleyan, a 10-9 winner over Tufts, in the NESCAC Championship at noon on Sunday.

Men's Lacrosse To Host NESCAC Tournament

5/4/04 - For the fourth consecutive year, Middlebury College will be the host school for the NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship. The Panthers will take on Amherst in the first semifinal on Saturday at noon, while Tufts meets Wesleyan in the other contest at 3:00 p.m. The winners will meet for the NESCAC Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at noon.

Men's Lacrosse Clinches NESCAC

5/1/04 - Greg Bastis scored three goals to lead the Middlebury men’s lacrosse team, ranked fourth nationally, to a 14-6 win over Bates in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game on Campus Avenue Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 12-1, 8-1 NESCAC clinched the top spot in the NESCAC championship tournament and will host the semifinal and championship games next weekend on Youngman Field. Middlebury will face the lowest remaining seed following Sunday’s first round contests on Saturday, May 8th.  

9-0 Run Lifts Men's Lax Over Williams

4/28/04 - Middlebury held Williams scoreless for a 33:58 span on its way to their 11th straight win over the Ephs, this time by a score of 12-5. The Panthers will wrap up their regular season this Saturday at Bates.

Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Trinity

4/24/04 - Charley Howe scored the game-winner for Middlebury with 5:31 left in regulation as the Panthers held off a charge by Trinity and came away with an 11-10 win.  

Men's Lacrosse Falls At Bowdoin In OT

4/17/04 -BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin sophomore Carl Klimpt fired a low shot past Middlebury netminder Eric Krieger at 2:31 of the overtime session, lifting the 16th-ranked Polar Bears to an upset win over the second-ranked Panthers, 11-10 on Saturday.

4/14/04 - Charley Howe scored with a low shot from the left side with just seven seconds left in overtime to lift second-ranked Middlebury to an 11-10 win over #14 Tufts in a NESCAC contest played on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium.

Late Goals Lifts Men's Lax By Amherst

4/10/04 - Second-ranked Middlebury survived a battle with Amherst on Kohn Field as the Panthers came away with a 7-6 win in a back-and-forth contest. Middlebury improves to 8-0, while Amherst falls to 6-2 on the season.

Men's Lacrosse Rolls Over Union

4/5/04 - Second-ranked Middlebury scored the game’s first eight goals on its way to a 21-2 win over Union on Kohn Field in Middlebury.

Men's Lax Defeats Wesleyan

4/3/04 - Second-ranked Middlebury improved to 3-0 in the NESCAC and 6-0 overall with an 11-8 win over Wesleyan on Kohn Field. The Cardinals drop to 0-2 in the league and 6-2 overall.

Men's Lacrosse Tops Connecticut College

3/27/04 - Charley Howe scored four goals, while Mike Saracini and Mark Foster added two goals apiece to lead Middlebury to a 10-3 road win at Connecticut College. The Panthers out shot the Camels, 48-21 as Eric Krieger made 14 saves. (box)

3/24/04 - (from Gettysburgh Release) - GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Eric Krieger made 17 saves and Mike Saraceni collected five points as second-ranked Middlebury shook off an early 4-0 deficit to beat fourth-ranked Gettysburg 10-8 in non-conference men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Men's Lacrosse Earns Tough Road Win At Springfield

3/17/04 - Mark Foster exploded for six goals as Middlebury earned a tough 12-10 road win at Springfield. The Panthers led 4-0 after one and 7-2 at the half. The Pride outscored Middlebury 6-2 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 9-8. The teams exchanged five fourth quarter goals as the Panthers held on for the win. Charley Howe added a pair of goals for Middlebury, while Eric Krieger made 10 saves in goal. (box)

3/13/04 - Second-ranked Middlebury opened its season with a 12-5 win over Colby on Kohn Field in Middlebury.

Quinn Inducted Into N.E. Lax Hall of Fame

The New England Lacrosse Hall of Fame recently announced its 2003 Class of Inductees and honored those individuals at a ceremony at the National Heritage Museum in Lexington, MA on January 24th, 2004.  The nine person class included Middlebury's men's lacrosse coach Erin Quinn.
