Rawson Earns National Scholarship

7/13/05 - Men's lacrosse player Will Rawson (Bethesda, Md.) has been awarded an NCAA NCAA postgraduate scholarship. Rawson recently graduated from Middlebury and was an honorable mention All-America selection, as well as a member of the All-NESCAC team. He was also a part of the All-NESCAC Academic squad.

Brown Named All-American

5/31/05 - Middlebury College men’s lacrosse player Ed Brown (Baltimore, Md.) has been named a first-team USILA All-American. The senior helped lead the Panthers to a 17-2 record this season, with a NESCAC Championship and a trip to the NCAA title game.

Men's Lacrosse Falls In NCAA Title Game

5/29/05 - Middlebury lost an 11-10 heart-breaker to Salisbury in the 2005 NCAA men’s lacrosse championship game. The contest was played before an NCAA record crowd of 20,803 in at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Middlebury looked strong in the first quarter, despite trailing 3-2 at the end of the session. Henry Sheehan and Jim Cabrera both had great shots stuffed early on by Salisbury goalkeeper Dan Korpon...

Men's Lacrosse Heads To Philly

5/23/05 - Middlebury will make its sixth appearance in the NCAA Championship game in the last seven years after a 14-12 win over Nazareth in a semifinal contest at Alumni Stadium. The Panthers will take on Salisbury, a 13-11 winner over Roanoke, in the NCAA Championship game on Sunday, May 29th at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The game will be televised live on CSTV (College Sports Television). The game will also be webcast here.

5/22/05 - Middlebury will make its sixth appearance in the NCAA Championship game in the last seven years after a 15-13 win over Nazareth in a semifinal contest at Alumni Stadium. The Panthers will take on Salisbury, a 13-11 winner over Roanoke, in the NCAA Championship game on Sunday, May 29th at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. 5/19/05 - The Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team will make its seventh straight appearance in the NCAA semifinals after an 11-8 win over Wesleyan in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Alumni Stadium. The Panthers will take on Nazareth, a 14-7 winner over Cortland, in a rematch of last year’s NCAA semifinal game, where the Golden Flyers earned a 12-8 win. The game will take place on Sunday, May 22nd at 3:00 p.m. in Middlebury. Roanoke will visit Salisbury in the other semifinal match-up on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Men's Lax To Host Quarterfinal Game

5/16/05 - Middlebury is in its eighth consecutive and ninth overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. The Panthers will host Wesleyan on Wednesday, May 18th  at 4:00 p.m. on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. The winner of the game will take on the winner of the Nazareth/Cortland quarterfinal contest. If Middlebury wins, they would host the semifinal contest on Saturday or Sunday.

Men's Lax Survives Endicott

5/14/05 - Middlebury scored the game’s last three goals to break a 12-12 tie to earn a 15-12 win over Endicott in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In a game that was closer than many expected, the Power Gulls hung tough, never trailing throughout the first half. Middlebury ended the game with a 65-21 shots advantage, won 23 of 31 face-offs, while holding a 60-36 lead in ground balls. The Panthers will host Wesleyan, a 10-7 winner over Springfield, in an NCAA Quarterfinal game on Wednesday, May 18th at 4:00 p.m.

Men's Lax Players Honored By The NESCAC

5/11/05 - Six members of the Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team were honored today when the NESCAC announced its all-conference selections. Seniors Dave Leach (New Canaan, Conn.), Mike Murray (Larchmont, N.Y.) and Ed Brown (Baltimore, Md.) were first team choices, while senior Will Rawson (Bethesda, Md.), junior Travis Meyer (Potomac, Md.) and first-year player Jim Cabrera (Greenwich, Conn.) were second team selections. Cabrera was also named the NESCAC rookie of the year.

Men's Lax Wins NESCAC Title

5/8/05 - Middlebury won its fifth straight NESCAC Championship (in the five years of the tournament’s existence) with a 9-5 win over Wesleyan. The Panthers receive an automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Championship, the team’s eighth straight bid and ninth overall to the tournament. Wesleyan will hope for an at-large bid when the pairings are announced Sunday night.

5/7/05 - Middlebury has earned a spot in the NESCAC Championship game after defeating Bates 15-6 at Alumni Stadium. The Panthers will take on Wesleyan, a 13-9 winner over Amherst in the title game on Sundat at noon, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

Men's Lacrosse Finish Regular Season Victorious

4/30/05 - Middlebury pulled ahead in the second quarter with five consecutive goals to ease past Bates 17-10 at Alumni Stadium. The Panthers are the top seed in the NESCAC and have earned a first-round bye for the conference tournament. They will host the semifinals and finals at Alumni Stadium next weekend. Bates finishes its regular season with an 8-4 record and will play at Bowdoin in a first-round tournament game on Sunday.

Mellen Earns Player of the Week Honors

4/25/05 - Middlebury College men's lacrosse player Peter Mellen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week.

Mellen was huge for the men last week, winning 25 of 33 face-offs in a pair of NESCAC road wins over Trinity and Colby. The middie also scored a goal in the win over Colby and has won 67% of his face-offs this season.

Men's Lacrosse Defeats Colby

4/24/05 - The Panther defense looked tough, las they led the team to a 14-3 win against Colby in a game played at Trinity. Middlebury led 5-0 after one quarter and took an 8-3 lead into the halftime break. Following a scoreless third quarter, the Panthers outscored the Mules 6-0 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Men's Lacrosse Slips By Bowdoin In OT

4/16/05 -Dave Leach scored with 1:47 left in overtime to lift Middlebury past Bowdoin at Alumni Stadium. The game-winner was set up by a ground ball picked up by Leach, who ran past a Polar Bear defender and snapped a hard, low one-hopper that found the back of the net to end a back-and-forth game between two nationally ranked teams. Middlebury is ranked fifth in the latest Division III poll while Bowdoin is ranked 12th.

4/9/05 - Middlebury came back from an early 3-1 deficit to beat Amherst 13-12 at Kohn Field. The Jeffs had a man-up advantage with 37 seconds to play in regulation, but a last second shot by Bryan Hiller was stopped by Alex Palmisano to preserve the win. Middlebury is ranked seventh in the latest Division III poll, while Amherst is ranked 16th.

"Keeper of the Kohn" To Premier In Baltimore

3/29/05 - Peter Kohn is one of the most well-known and loved individuals to ever grace the lacrosse community. Anyone who has ever met and known Peter has been positively impacted by his life. The last couple of years of Peter's life have been full of excitement, challenge and change. After the 2003 lacrosse season, Peter retired from his position as equipment manager at Middlebury College. In November 2004, Peter was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

3/26/05 - Middlebury won 18 of 22 face-offs en route to an 18-3 win over Connecticut College in NESCAC men’s lacrosse action. The Panthers are ranked third in the latest Division III national poll.

Middlebury broke open a 1-0 game with a five-goal second quarter to take a 6-1 lead into the halftime break.

Gettysburg Tops Men's Lacrosse Team

3/23/05 - Middlebury lost its first game of the season as 13th-ranked Gettysburg topped No. 3 Middlebury 18-6 in non-conference men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Bryan Pryor netted a team-high four goals and added one assist, helping the Bullets (3-2) outscore the Panthers 11-0 in the first and third quarters.

Meyer Earns Player of the Week Honors

3/22/05 - Middlebury College men’s lacrosse player Travis Meyer (Potomac, Md.) has been named the NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week. Meyer earned four goals and three assists as Middlebury opened up its season with a pair of 9-7 wins over ranked teams Springfield and Stevens Tech. The junior middie scored a pair and dished out three assists in the season-opening win over Springfield. He then netted two goals as #3 Middlebury topped Stevens. Meyer is currently tied for the team-lead with six points on the season.

3/19/05 - The Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the season as they defeated Stevens Tech by a score of 9-7. The Panthers were ranked third in the latest Division III national poll, while the Ducks came in ranked 12th.

Kohn Inducted Into Lacrosse Hall of Fame

11/22/04 - Middlebury College friend Peter Kohn was recently inducted into the 47th class of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. The 2004 class was honored Saturday, Nov. 20, at a formal induction ceremony at the Hunt Valley (Md.) Marriott. Their plaques will be located in the Lacrosse Museum and National Hall of Fame at the US Lacrosse headquarters in Baltimore.

Quinn To Be Honored

10/13/04 - Middlebury College men’s lacrosse coach Erin Quinn will be recognized at the Third Annual Recognition dinner hosted by the Vermont Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse. The dinner will take place on Sunday, October 17th at St. Michael’s College.

The group honors individuals who have made a significant contribution to the sport of lacrosse in Vermont over a period of many years. The group’s goal is to acknowledge those who represent diverse areas of the sport, including youth, high school, college and officials.
