Men's Lacrosse Tops Bowdoin In NCAA Tourney Play

Middlebury went on a 5-0 run midway through the game on its way to a 10-7 win over Bowdoin in an NCAA second-round contest on campus. The Panthers advance to the quarterfinal round, where they will travel to Cortland State for a contest on Wednesday. Bowdoin ends its season with a 12-7 record, including 1-1 in NCAA Tournament play in the school’s first appearance. With the victory, the Panthers are now 27-8 in NCAA Tournament action since ’96.

Men's Lax All-NESCAC Honors - Stone Is Player Of The Year

Three members of the Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team were honored today when the NESCAC announced its all-league teams. Junior Mike Stone (Boston, Mass.) was named the NESCAC Player of the Year, while also earning a spot on the first team. Junior James Guay (North Scituate, R.I.) was named to the first-team, while senior Jim Cabrera (Old Greenwich, Conn.) earned second-team honors. The three are preparing to host an NCAA Tournament second-round match-up on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. vs. Bowdoin.

Men's Lacrosse To Host NCAA Game - Watch Live!

Middlebury will make its 11th consecutive and 12th overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Tournament this weekend. The Panthers drew a first-round bye and will host Bowdoin, an 11-5 winner of Mt. Ida, on Saturday, May 10th at 1:00 p.m. Middlebury earned its way into the tournament with an at-large bid after falling 11-10 in overtime to Williams in the NESCAC semifinals.

Richard Reuter converted a quick pass from Michael Vrla with 1:52 left in overtime to lift Williams to an 11-10 win over top-seeded Middlebury in a NESCAC semifinal game in Vermont. The Ephs will take on Bowdoin, an 11-9 winner over Bowdoin, in the championship game on Sunday at noon. The Panthers will hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when the pairings are announced on Sunday night.

Men's Lacrosse Clinches Top Seed With Victory Over Tufts

Middlebury defeated Tufts 9-4 wrapping up the regular season for both teams. With the win, the Panthers (12-1, 8-1 NESCAC) clinched the top seed for the upcoming NESCAC tournament. The Panthers draw a first-round bye and will host the NESCAC semifinals and finals on May 3-4. The Jumbos (9-5, 6-3 NESCAC) earned a third seed in the tourney and will host a quarterfinal game against sixth-seeded Williams at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Middlebury earned a huge road win on Saturday, as they topped Wesleyan 11-8. Middlebury, ranked seventh nationally, took over sole possession of first place in the NESCAC as the two teams entered the game tied for first at 6-1. The Panthers also remained undefeated on the road this year with an 8-0 mark.

Men's Lacrosse Tops Skidmore

Middlebury jumped out to a 6-0 lead and fought off a late surge by Skidmore, winning 8-5 in the non-conference match-up on Wednesday afternoon. It was the first ever men’s lacrosse contest between the two schools, which are separated by less than 90 miles. With the win, Middlebury improved to 10-1 on the season, posting their 14th consecutive season of 10 or more wins. The Panthers return to action on Saturday, travelling to NESCAC rival Wesleyan for a game featuring the top two teams in the conference.

Men's Lacrosse Falls To Trinity

Middlebury dropped its first game of the season 6-5 to Trinity Saturday afternoon. The third-ranked Panthers (9-1, 6-1 NESCAC) own a 19-3 series lead over the Bantams, but have lost the last two, including last season’s 11-10 double-overtime thriller in Hartford, Connecticut. Middlebury out-shot Trinity 40-25 on the day, but were held in check by Bantam defense.

Men's Lacrosse Moves To 9-0

Pete Britt made 14 saves, including several key stops in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter, to lead #3 Middlebury College to an 11-8 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in non-conference men’s lacrosse action. The Panthers improve to 9-0 on the season while the Red Hawks drop to 8-3.

Men's Lacrosse Wins At Amherst

Middlebury remained undefeated on the season as the men’s lacrosse team picked up a 15-13 road win at Amherst. The Jeffs trailed 10-4 at the half, but closed to within a single goal of tying the game before falling in regulation to the undefeated Panthers.

Men's Lax Beats Williams

Middlebury defeated Williams 7-6 at Kohn Field on Wednesday, improving their overall record to 7-0, and 5-0 in NESCAC action. The fourth-ranked Panthers saw the Ephs (2-4, 1-4) battle back from a three goal deficit in the second half, but Middlebury’s goalie Pete Britt made three of his nine saves in the waning minutes of play to preserve the win.

Middlebury went on a 5-0 run in the second half, breaking open a six-all tie against Colby en route to a 13-7 victory at Kohn Field on Saturday afternoon. In a battle of two previously unbeaten teams, the seventh-ranked Panthers improve to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in NESCAC action, while the Mules drop to 5-1 and 2-1 in conference play. Both teams return to action on Wednesday, as Middlebury hosts Williams for an afternoon match-up, while Colby hosts Bates in the evening.

The seventh-ranked Middlebury men’s lacrosse team outscored Washington and Lee 11-3 over the final two quarters for a 15-10 victory over the Generals on Tuesday evening at the W&L Turf Field.

Stone Earns Player Of The Week Honors

Middlebury College men’s lacrosse player Matt Mike Stone (Boston, Mass.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The junior middie scored seven goals, including Saturday’s double-overtime winner at Bowdoin, and added four assists during a 2-0 week for the Panthers.

Mike Stone scored five goals, including the game-winner in double-overtime, to lead the Middlebury men's lacrosse team to a 12-11 comeback victory over Bowdoin on Saturday in Brunswick. The Panthers (4-0, 3-0 NESCAC) are ranked 11th in the latest USILA poll as Bowdoin drops their second straight contest to fall to 3-2 overall.

Men's Lacrosse Wins At Springfield

Middlebury moved to 3-0 on the season as they picked up a 12-6 road win at Springfield. The Panthers wasted no time scoring the game’s first goal as Frank Granara found the back of the cage just 13 seconds into the contest. A goal from Bart Witmer off a feed from Pete Smith gave the Panthers a two-goal advantage with just under nine minutes left in the first period.

Men's Lacrosse Wins Tight One At Conn.

Middlebury College earned a 3-2 victory at Connecticut College in a closely contested defensive battle played on Silfen Field in New London Saturday afternoon. Skyler Hopkins put in what would prove to be the game winner with 12:07 remaining in regulation. Jim Cabrera and Tom Petty contributed goals for the Panthers.

Ferrer Earns Player Of The Week Honors

Middlebury College men’s lacrosse player Matt Ferrer (Darien, Conn.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The junior attackman started off the 2008 campaign with a career-high five goals in a 14-12 win at Bates on Sunday. Two of his five tallies came during a 5-0 Panther run in the first quarter as he scored five goals on seven shots taken in the contest. Middlebury returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Connecticut College.

Middlebury held off a late comeback by Bates as the Panthers opened the year with a 14-12 road win in Maine. Middlebury jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind a pair of goals from Matt Ferrer. Bates scored three of the next four goals to cut the lead to 6-3 with 10:43 left in the second quarter.
