Campbell enters his second season as head coach of the men's lacrosse program. In his first season, he continued the post-season tradition, leading the team to its seventh NESCAC crown and its 10th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Campbell came to Middlebury from Connecticut College, where he served as head coach for the past three seasons. In his time at the NESCAC school, Campbell led the team to a pair of NESCAC tournament appearances in 2004 and 2005. The 2005 Camels posted a five game-winning streak and finished 21
st in the laxpower.com national power rating index. Although Campbell had no all-conference players during his first year, goalkeeper Topher Grossman was a first-team selection, while middie Dave Schwartz earned second-team All-NESCAC honors during Campbell’s second season. Grossman was later named to the USILA All-America team and was also recognized as a USILA Scholar All-American.
While at Connecticut College, Campbell also worked as an adjunct physical education instructor, the intramural director, and the faculty advisor on the student athletic advisory committee.
Prior to his three seasons at Connecticut College, Campbell served as an assistant coach at Notre Dame for two seasons. During his stint in South Bend, he helped the Irish become one of the top-10 defensive teams in Division I lacrosse. The squad finished the 2002 and 2003 seasons as co-champions of the Great Western Lacrosse League. His duties included recruiting coordination and working with the goalkeepers.
A 2000 graduate of Middlebury College, Campbell enjoyed tremendous success with the Panther program as a player and later as an assistant coach. His teams went 52-10 while Campbell was a player, winning the ECAC championship during his rookie season. The team appeared in the NCAA tournament his sophomore year and advanced to the title game his junior year, before winning its first-ever NCAA championship during his senior season. Campbell returned to Middlebury in 2001 as an assistant coach, helping guide the team to its second consecutive NCAA crown.
Campbell was a two-time All-American and All-NESCAC selection at Middlebury, playing in the North/South game during his senior year when he served as team captain. The Norwalk, Conn., native ended his career with a 7.83 GAA, third on the school’s all-time list.
