MIDDLEBURY BLANKS WESTERN NEW ENGLAND

MIDDLEBURY, Vermont – Middlebury avenged last season's 3-2 overtime loss on the road with a 4-0 win over Western New England College in the season-opener for the Panthers in Middlebury.

Kellan Florio opened the scoring as he took a through pass from Matt Haddad and found the net at the 11:09 mark. Rookie John Sales scored the first of his career as he headed in a nice serving pass from Derek Cece late in the first half. Florio netted in second of the game at 54:41 with a shot inside the box, while Matt Scheufele ended the scoring at 83:08, putting home a loose ball in the crease area.

Craig Hirsh made a pair of saves in goal for the shutout, while Kevin Koch and Mike Madru combined to make six saves for WNEC.
