Three members of the Middlebury College men’s soccer team earned NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of American) All-New England honors. Seniors David Lee (Mendham, N.J.) and Zack Toth (Carlisle, Mass.), along with sophomore Casey Ftorek (Wolfeboro, N.H.) all earned spots on the team. The three helped lead the Panthers to an 11-6-1 record, with a trip to the NESCAC Championship as well as the NCAA Tournament.
Zach Toth earns first-team honors after a great year between the posts for the Panthers. The senior had a great weekend at the NESCAC Tournament, allowing no goals in 200 minutes of action, earning NESCAC Player of the Week honors. Toth was 10-5-1 on the season with a 1.05 goals against average and six shutouts, giving him 14 in his two years as a starter. Toth was also a first-team All-NESCAC selection.
Ftorek was named to the first-team in his inaugural year at Middlebury after transferring from Union. The sophomore tied the school record for points in a season with 34, to go along with his team-leading 13 goals and eight assists. Ftorek led the NESCAC in points, while ranking third in goals and second in assists this season. He was also named to the All-NESCAC first-team earlier this year.
Lee was a third-team All-New England selection after earning second-team All-NESCAC honors. He was a steady presence on the Middlebury side this season, playing in 18 games. He helped anchor a Middlebury defense that allowed just 0.98 goals/contest this season. Lee also scored a goal in Middlebury’s NESCAC first-round win at Bowdoin.
