Saward Earns National Coach Of The Year Honors

Middlebury College men’s soccer coach David Saward has been named the NSCAA/Adidas National Coach of the Year. The 23-year head coach led the Panthers to their first NCAA Championship this fall, setting a new school record with 18 wins against just two losses and a pair of ties. His ’07 squad earned a school-best 17 shutouts, while capturing the NESCAC Championship.

Bush Appears In Sports Illustrated

Middlebury College men’s soccer player Brian Bush (Madison Wis.) will appear in the “Faces In The Crowd” section of Sports Illustrated in the upcoming January 14th issue that hits newsstands Thursday, the 10th. Bush is the 15th person to represent Middlebury College Athletics in the magazine since 1996.

Men's Soccer All-Americans Announced

Five Middlebury College men’s soccer players were honored today when the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) announced its All-Region and All-American teams. Seniors Alex Elias (Manchester Center, Vt.) and Casey Ftorek (Wolfeboro, N.H.), along with junior Brian Bush (Madison, Wis.) earned first-team All-American honors, while senior Andrew Germansky (New York, N.Y.) was a second-team honoree. The four were also all named first-team All-New England, while junior Baer Fisher (Kenilworth, Ill.) earned second-team honors for the Panthers. Men's Soccer Wins NCAA Championship - Watch Archived Game

The Middlebury men’s soccer team won its first NCAA Championship with a 1-0 win over Trinity of Texas in the title match in Florida. The game finished in a scoreless tie through two overtimes, but the Panthers won the shootout, 4-3. In the title game, the shootout winner is credited with a one-goal victory. The national championship is the 28th for the College since ’94, in eight different sports. The Panthers end the year with a school record 18 wins (18-2-2) and 17 shutouts. Trinity suffers its first loss and ends the season with a 23-1 mark.

Middlebury has advanced to the NCAA Sectional Finals (quarterfinals) after a 3-0 shutout win over NESCAC foe Williams. The Panthers will take on York, a shoot-out winner over Amherst (0-0 tie), in the sectional final on Sunday at 1:00. Middlebury improves on its school-best numbers for wins (16) and shutouts (14) in a season. Williams ends its season at 12-5-2.

The Panthers are now 9-0 at home in ’07 with just one goal allowed.

Four Men's Soccer Players Named All-NESCAC

Four members of the Middlebury College men’s soccer team have earned first-team All-NESCAC honors this fall. Seniors Casey Ftorek (Wolfeboro, N.H.), Alex Elias (Manchester Center, Vt.) Men's Soccer To Host Wheaton In NCAA Game

The Middlebury College men’s soccer team will make its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend when they host a second-round game after earning a first-round bye. The Panthers will take on Wheaton (13-6-3), a 2-0 first-round winner over Bridgewater State, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10th. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students.

Elias Earns Academic All-American Honors

Middlebury College men’s soccer player Alex Elias (Manchester, Vt.) has been named a District I Academic All-American by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association). Elias recently helped lead the Panthers to their second NESCAC Championship with a school-record 14 wins against two losses and a tie. The senior midfielder currently has a 3.71 GPA and will graduate this spring with a degree in economics.

Bush Earns Player Of The Week Honors

Middlebury College men’s soccer player Brian Bush (Madison, Wis.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The junior had an impressive championship weekend for the Panthers in net, allowing one goal in 200 minutes of action and earning a shutout in Sunday’s final as Middlebury claimed a 1-0 victory to secure the 2007 NESCAC Men’s Soccer Championship. Bush made a total of seven saves on the weekend, including two during the penalty kick round on Saturday to help Middlebury advance past Williams in the semifinals. Bush now has eight shutouts so far this season with a conference-best 0.46 goals against average.

Men's Soccer Wins NESCAC Championship

Middlebury won its second NESCAC Championship and its first since the inaugural tourney in ’00 as the Panthers defeated Amherst, 1-0. The victory avenges a mid-season 3-1 loss to Amherst, as the Panthers improve to 14-2-1. Middlebury earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will find out their fate when the pairings are announced on Monday.

The action begins on Saturday, Nov. 3 with second-seed Middlebury facing third-seed and defending NESCAC Men’s Soccer Champion Williams in the first semifinal at 11:00 a.m., and will be followed by number-one Amherst taking on fifth-seed Bowdoin at 1:30 p.m. The 2007 NESCAC Men’s Soccer Championship concludes on Sunday, Nov. 4 with the final match getting underway at 12:00 p.m.

Ftorek Named NESCAC Player Of The Week

Middlebury College men’s soccer player Casey Ftorek (Wolfeboro, N.H.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week for the second time this season. Ftorek had a hand in every goal the Panthers scored over three games last week, tallying four times while adding in an assist as Middlebury went 2-1-0 and advanced to the semifinals of the 2007 NESCAC Men’s Soccer Championship. Ftorek scored the lone Middlebury goal on Tuesday in a 2-1 double-overtime loss at Keene St., followed by Saturday’s lone marker in a 1-0 Panther win at Trinity. He closed out the week by scoring two goals and contributing an assist on a third in a 3-0 win over Connecticut College on Sunday. Ftorek leads the NESCAC with 11 goals through 15 games this year.

Men's Soccer Blanks Conn. - Headed To NESCAC Semi's

Middlebury advanced to the NESCAC semifinal round with a 3-0 win over Connecticut College. The Panthers will take on Williams next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Amherst, while the host school will play Bowdoin at 1:30. The winners meet for the NESCAC title at noon on Sunday. The Camels end their season at 3-9-3, while Middlebury improves to 13-2, its most wins since the ’98-’00 teams won 13 games each season.

Casey Ftorek scored the game’s only goal in the 73rd minute to give visiting Middlebury a 1-0 win over Trinity in the final game of the regular season for both teams. Middlebury will host Connecticut College in a NESCAC first-round game on Sunday at 12:30.

The men’s soccer team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end as they suffered just their second loss of the season, a 2-1 double overtime game at Keene State. Jeremy Kelsey’s goal at the 7:27 mark of the second overtime gave the the Owls the 2-1 upset win.

Stephen Hart scored in the 51st minute to lift Middlebury over host Bates 1-0 in a NESCAC men's soccer contest on Saturday. Middlebury raised its overall record to 11-1, 7-1 in conference play, while Bates drops to 4-8-1 overall and 0-7-1 in NESCAC play.

Middlebury picked up its eighth shutout of the season as the 10-1 Panthers earned their second win in as many days, this time a 5-0 non-conference victory over Plymouth State (4-7-1).

Men's Soccer Tops Williams 1-0

In another tightly-contested Middlebury vs. Williams men’s soccer game, the Panthers came away with a 1-0 victory in Vermont. Baer Fisher scored at 82:29 as he took a drop pass from Casey Ftorek, who had carried the ball down the left win. Fisher blasted a ball into the upper right corner, just inside the post, for the game’s only goal. The Panthers return to action on Sunday when the host Plymouth State at 3:00.

Men's Soccer With NESCAC Win Over Bowdoin

Middlebury earned its sixth shutout in nine games as they improved to 8-1 with a 2-0 win over Bowdoin (6-3). The Panthers have now allowed just five goals this season and will return to action when they host Williams on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The Middlebury Men's Soccer team suffered its first loss of the season as they fell to NESCAC rival Amherst 3-1. The Panthers move to 7-1 on the season, while the Lord Jeffs remain undefeated at 9-0.

Fisher netted a goal and an assist in a 5-0 win on Tuesday over Colby-Sawyer before putting on a repeat performance on Saturday during a 3-1 victory over Colby.

Men's Soccer Remains Undefeated

Middlebury moved to 6-0 on the season with five shutouts as the Panthers picked up a 3-1 win over Colby in NESCAC men’s soccer action. Middlebury’s allowed its first goal in over 454 minutes this season, as the Mule broke through early on.

Make It Five Straight

Middlebury picked up its fifth consecutive shutout in as many games to start the season, as they earned a 5-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer. The feat matches the ’03 squad, who also opened the season with five straight blankings.

Men's Soccer Tops Wesleyan - Yet To Allow A Goal

Carson Cornbrooks scored his first career goal and it proved to be the game-winner as Middlebury remained undefeated and unscored upon on the season with a 2-0 blanking of Wesleyan. Brian Bush needed to make just three saves to post his fourth shutout of the season (he has 14 stops on the year). One of his saves in the first half came on a penalty kick by Wesleyan's Justin Mello.

The Middlebury men’s soccer team posted its third consecutive win by shutout to start the 2007 season, scoring a 1-0 victory at Tufts in a NESCAC game played at Kraft Field on Saturday afternoon.

When the Middlebury College men’s soccer team opens its season on Saturday, September 8th, they will do so on a brand-new state-of-the-art Field Turf surface. The Panthers will host Connecticut College at 1:30 p.m. in the season-opener for both teams, with an opening ceremony scheduled for halftime.
