Men's Tennis Headed To NCAA Championship Weekend

The Middlebury College men’s tennis team will make its sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals after defeating Trinity 5-1 in an NCAA Regional Final on campus. The Panthers will take on Mary Washington of Fredericksburg, Virginia on Tuesday, May 13th at noon. Matches will be held at the Wallach Tennis Center on the campus of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. The team championships will take place from the 13th-15th, while the individual titles will be crowned from the 16th-18th.

Men's Tennis Wins NCAA Regional

Middlebury advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals after a 5-1 win over Trinity in an NCAA Regional on campus. The Panthers will meet Mary Washington in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, May 13th at Bates College. Middlebury improves to 17-5 on the season, while Trinity ends the year with a 13-3 mark. The match took place at the Nelson Recreational Center on campus after wet courts forced it to be played indoors.

Men's Tennis With NCAA Win Over M.I.T.

Middlebury advanced to the regional final of the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 win over M.I.T. in a match played in the Nelson Recreational Center on the campus of Middlebury College. The Panthers will take on the winner of the Vassar/Trinity match, played later today, in the regional final on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Men's Tennis Players Earn NESCAC Honors - Schwarz Is Coach Of The Year

Three members of the Middlebury College men’s tennis team earned All-NESCAC honors when the teams were announced today. Senior Filip Marinkovic (Toronto, Ont.) earned first-team honors in singles and doubles, sophomore Andrew Thomson (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) was a first-team doubles selection, while sophomore Andrew Lee (Eden Prarie, Minn.) earned a spot on the second team as a singles player. Middlebury head coach Dave Schwarz earned NESCAC Coach of the Year honors for the third time. The Panthers are preparing to host this weekend’s NCAA Regional on campus.

Men's Tennis To Host NESCAC Championship

Four-time defending Men’s Tennis Champion Middlebury College will pursue a fifth-consecutive NESCAC crown this weekend when the Panthers host the 2008 NESCAC Men’s Tennis Championship in Middlebury, Vt. The three-day championship begins on Friday, April 25 with the first match featuring fourth-seed Bowdoin taking on fifth-seed Bates at 1:30 p.m., followed at 4:00 p.m. with third-seed Williams facing NESCAC rival and sixth-seed Amherst. Friday’s winners will advance to Saturday’s semifinals against top-seeded Trinity and second-seeded Middlebury. The 2008 NESCAC Men’s Tennis Championship will conclude on Sunday, April 27, with the championship match at 1:00 p.m.

Men's Tennis Tops TCNJ

The men's tennis team made it four straight wins as they prepare to host this weekend's NESCAC Championships. #8 Middlebury moved to 14-4 on the season as they picked up an 8-1 win over 14th-ranked, The College of New Jersey. Middlebury swept all six singles matches, falling only in the #1 doubles slot.

Men's Tennis Defeats Amherst

The Middlebury men's tennis team improved to 13-4 on the year and 6-1 in NESCAC play, with a 7-2 home victory over Amherst. Middlebury won all but the #1 and #2 singles matches en route to the victory.

Men's Tennis Earns Win At Skidmore

The Middlebury men's tennis team improved to 12-4 on the year with an 8-1 win at Skidmore. The Panthers swept the doubles matches before winning five of six singles contests in straight sets. Middlebury returns to action on Saturday when they host Amherst at noon.

Men's Tennis Tops Bowdoin

The ninth-ranked Middlebury men’s tennis team moved to 5-1 in NESCAC play and 11-4 overall with a 7-2 victory over Bowdoin. The Polar Bears, ranked 21st nationally, fall to 3-2 in the league and 6-4 overall.

Men's Tennis Falls At Williams

Middlebury saw its 45-match NESCAC winning streak (regular & post-season) come to an end as they dropped a hard-fought 5-4 match at Williams on Wednesday. The Panthers had not lost to a NESCAC opponent since a set-back to Bowdoin in the '02 NCAA Tournament. The loss also snaps a 39-match NESCAC regular season winning streak. The Ephs entered the match ranked fourth in the latest national poll, while the Panthers were in the ninth slot.

Men's Tennis Earns Two NESCAC Wins

Middlebury moved to 4-0 in NESCAC play with two more wins last week. The Panthers dropped only 11 games in singles play on their way to the 9-0 win at Connecticut College. The match at Trinity was tight, with the Panthers falling in a 3-0 hole early with three doubles losses. Middlebury battled back to win five of six singles contests to edge the Bantams, 5-4.

Men's Tennis Cruises Past Hamilton

The Middlebury men’s tennis team moved to 2-0 in NESCAC play as they Panthers cruised to a 9-0 win over Hamilton. The ninth-ranked Panthers are now 8-3 overall while Hamilton falls to 1-4, 0-2 in NESCAC play. Middlebury cruised to straight-set victories in each match, dropping just 15 games in singles play.

Men's Tennis Returns From California

The Middlebury College men’s tennis team played six matches over its spring break trip to California, earning a 3-3 mark on the west coast. The Panthers opened with an 8-1 win over Pomona-Pitzer, before falling 7-2 to Azusa Pacific. Middlebury was then defeated 6-3 by Claremont-McKenna and 8-1 by UC-Santa Cruz before bouncing back with a 7-2 win over Pacific Lutheran. The Panthers rounded out the trip with a 6-3 victory over Redlands.

Men's Tennis Opens Spring 4-0

The Panther men’s tennis team opened up the spring season with four home matches played on indoor courts. Middlebury did not lose a game over the weekend, defeating Brandeis, Union and Bates 9-0, earning a 6-0 win over N.Y.U. in a shortened match.

Doubles Team Wins Nationals - Panthers Compete At Bates

The Middlebury College men’s tennis team has a busy weekend with action taking place in Maine and Alabama. After winning the ITA Regional doubles title a few weeks ago, the duo of senior Filip Marinkovic (Toronto, Ont.) and sophomore Andrew Thomson (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) qualified for the ITA Small College Tennis Championships in Alabama over the weekend. The pair were impressive, winning three matches to capture the national title. The pair were straight set victors over each of their opponents, including a 6-3, 6-4 win over Emory in the finals. They advanced to the “Super Bowl” of small college tennis, competing against the winners from Division II, NAIA and junior colleges. Marinkovic and Thomson went down in the semifinals of that bracket, 3-6, 6-3, 3-10.

Thomson & Marinkovic Win Doubles Title

The Middlebury College men’s tennis team was in action at Williams over the weekend at the ITA Regional. The doubles team of senior Filip Marinkovic (Toronto, Ont.) and sophomore Andrew Thomson (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) turned in an impressive run as they won five matches to capture the ITA doubles title, 8-6.

Men's Tennis Invitational Results

The Middlebury College men’s tennis team hosted a seven-team invitational over the weekend with four singles flights and two doubles flights. The “A” doubles flight was an all-Middlebury final as senior Filip Marinkovic (Toronto, Ont.) and sophomore Andrew Thomson (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) defeated sophomores Chris Mason (Owings Mills, Md.) and Andrew Lee (Eden Prairie, Minn.) 8-3.

Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season

The Panther men’s tennis team opened the season with a trip to the Cornell Invitational. Several Division I teams were competing at the event, with Middlebury and Amherst from Division III. Sophomore Andrew Thomson (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) did well in singles, advancing to the finals of the “B” singles bracket with three wins, before falling 6-1, 6-4 in the finals.
