December 8, 2005
12/8/05 - Middlebury tied the school record for its best ever start as they moved to 7-0 with a convincing 81-57 win at <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Johnson State. The seven straight wins to open the season equal the effort of the 1917-18 squad, which finished the season at 7-0. The Panther will try to break the mark when they host undefeated Hamilton on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
Middlebury took a 10-point lead into the intermission behind strong play from Evan Thompson, who scored 13 first-half points, and 6 of 12 shooting from three-point range. The Badgers hung close shooting 58.3% from the field in the first half but trailed 43-33 at the break.
Middlebury took control of the rebounding battle in the second half and increased its lead to 28 points midway through the stanza. Johnson State would come within 19, but could get no closer.
Thompson would finish with 20 points and nine rebounds for the Panthers, while Sam Daly chipped in with 13 points in the balanced Middlebury attack.
