Previous School: Belmont Hill
Hometown: Needham, Mass.
I came to Middlebury during the spring of my junior year of high school, and I was amazed by the plush Vermont landscape. Coming from Boston, I knew that I wanted to spend my four years of college in a small town, rural setting, and Middlebury was perfect. The athletic facilities made my college decision even easier. I had been looking at several Division I colleges for football, but none of these schools had facilities even close to the quality and size of Middlebury’s weight room and other training facilities.
What is the one thing that makes Middlebury College a special place for you?
Although there are many things that make Middlebury a special place to me, the one thing that stands out in my mind is the people. Since Middlebury is such a small community, I have really gotten to know a lot of different people in different sports and student groups throughout the campus that I might not have otherwise met had I gone to a larger university. Middlebury certainly has a unique world and cultural blend of students that all offer unique perspectives on life, and I have enjoyed learning about these views throughout the past four years.
What is your best memory as a player at Middlebury College?
My best memory as a player was hosting a NESCAC playoff game last season against Colby. Before the game I realized how far the team and the program had come since my freshman year when we finished 6-18. Last year’s team was a great group of players that worked well together and wanted to win. Fortunately, that attitude has carried over to this year, and I think my best memories as a player are ahead of me.
What have you learned from your sport that you will use in your everyday life?
Although there are countless lessons that I have learned from basketball throughout my college career, the one that stands out to me is time management. Throughout the past four years I have learned to work as an effective member and leader of a team, while balancing a very heavy academic course load. In order to balance such a demanding schedule, I had to trust and communicate with others frequently in order to meet deadlines and achieve my goals. These are skills that I know will carry over with me when I enter into the professional world.]]>
