Men's Basketball Tops St. Lawrence

Middlebury improved to 6-0 on the season as the Panthers picked up a 79-57 win over St. Lawrence (1-4) in Pepin Gym. The Panthers forced 22 turnovers in the game, while shooting .468 from the floor. Middlebury wraps up its semester schedule when they host Union on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
St. Lawrence jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the game's first five minutes of play. Middlebury followed with a 15-2 run that gave them a 19-9 lead with 8:40 remaining in the first half. Andrew Locke sparked the run with eight points, including a dunk at the 8:40 mark. The Saints answered with an 11-2 spurt that brought them within one at 21-20 at the 5:24 mark.
Middlebury led 33-28 at the half, before seeing Garrett Sharlow tie the game at 35 with a three 1:47 into the second half. Five points from Jake Wolfin sparked a 9-0 run that put the Panthers back on top by a score of 44-35 with 14:26 left to play. Middlebury put the game away midway through the half, going on a 14-4 run beginning at the 11:12 mark that gave them a 66-45 advantage with 7:11 remaining. Ryan Sharry scored two of his game/career-high 20 points on a thunderous dunk in transition, converting a behind-the-back pass from Wolfin with 3:53 on the clock.
Locke scored 14 for the Panthers with six rebounds and four blocks, Nolan Thompson netted 13, while Wolfin scored eight with seven helpers. Sharlow paced the Saints with 15 points, Ralph Temgoua had a dozen, while Andy Hoercher netted nine.
