Men's Basketball Opens With Road Win

The Middlebury men's basketball team opened up its season with a 65-57 win over Swarthmore at the Equinox Classic Tournament in Pennsylvania. The rookie backcourt of Nolan Thompson and Jake Wolfin combined for 26 points and eight rebounds in the win. The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they visit Haverford.

The Panthers came out shooting well early, taking a 30-22 lead into the halftime break. Swarthmore cut the lead to five twice in the second half, but Middlebury increased its lead to as many as 13 before coming away with the win.

Thompson scored 17 points on 6-11 shooting in his collegiate debut, to go along with five boards. Jamal Davis went 7-15 to score 15 points with seven boards, while Wolfin netted 11 with four assists in his first game with the Panthers. Ryan Sharry added seven points, four assists and a game-high eight rebounds in the victory, while Ryan Wholey netted nine with five boards.
